4F Craftin’: A Simple Custom Flower Crate
This beautiful crate has a custom flower design that I will show you how to make
I am on a real spring craft bender these days. I have seen so many beautiful Spring/Easter themed crafts in the blogosphere that I have been overwhelmed with motivation and enthusiasm. I am incredibly inspired by everyone’s creativity and talent!
I picked up an adorable little wooden “crate” at a local dollar store with hopes of creating something fun and springy for our coffee table. It was natural wood, so I watered down some craft paint and gave it a quick coat to whitewash it.
Next I used PicMonkey to create a little printable logo. I LOVE PicMonkey. If you haven’t tried using it yet, you should. You can probably see by all my pictures and collages that I might be a little obsessed with PicMonkey, even. I made a logo for “Lakeshore Flower Farm” because we live on a lakeshore, but you could really call yours whatever is personal to you. Or, feel free to print this one if you like it!
After printing four copies of the logo off in two different sizes (larger for the sides of the crate and smaller logos for the ends), I gathered the rest of the needed materials:
The steps are relatively simple:
1) Carefully cut your logos out.
2) Paint Mod Podge on the back of your logo (and even throw a little on the side of the crate).
3) Gently adhere your Mod Podged logo to the crate, being careful to center it.
4) Paint a good thick layer (or two or three) of Mod Podge overtop, working to carefully press out the bubbles that form and leaving a thick cross-hatched effect with your brush.
See below:
You could always try sanding slightly or whitewashing over your label if you want it to look a little more aged, I was happy with the way mine turned out so I skipped those steps.
Here is the finished product:
Now to fill it with something fun! This is the fun part where you get to be creative and use it for whatever you want! You could fill it with old milk bottles and glass jars full of pretty flowers… load it up with twine Easter eggs. Whatever you can imagine!
I layered a few old hand towels in the bottom to build it up and then placed some fake grass over them. I then stuffed in some little speckled Easter eggs that I had in my craft supplies.
I am thrilled with how the whole thing came out! I chose the red gardening book below the crate in order to provide a little hit of red that ties in with our red armoire that is decorated for spring as well. I love how the fresh green and blue and yellow palate ties in so well with the dining room springy décor and the NEW Life 3D Wooden sign thatI made, as well.
It is so satisfying when a seasonal scheme comes together… now just to make a few new fresh pillows for the spring/summer season. Also I’ll be back really soon with more on the laundry room!
And remember, my housie friends, HOME wasn’t built in a day. Enjoy the journey!

Such a cute project! Which dollar store did you get the crate from? Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Glad to have found yours. 🙂
Hi Anu,
One of our local dollar stores called Dollarama… they have a lot of nicer things that are actually $2 or $3. I even picked up a cute white shadowbox frame recently there that I used to make my birdie picture for our faux spring mantel. Thanks so much for stopping by!
