A Lake Cottage Christmas: Christmas in the Kitchen

I am very excited to share my Christmas decor in the lake cottage kitchen!

12 Days of Christmas Projects and Tours at thehappyhousie.com

Good morning!! Welcome to the second part of our Lake Cottage Christmas home tour and Day 6 of my 12 days of Christmas Series.

I am super excited to be sharing our Christmas in the Kitchen with you today! I’m joining up with an amazing group of bloggers for the Canadian Christmas Home Tour Hop hosted by Christina of The DIY Mommy – so if you are new here, then welcome! My name is Krista, and I love to blog about our DIY and decorating adventures in my “spare” time from being a full-time primary teacher and Mom. I’m a born and bred “housie” (someone whose passion is all things house related – think “foodie”, but for houses) and I love sharing our home exploits on this little bit of the web.

A little history about our home: we have lived here for five years this coming spring and love our home for the fact that it is located on a beautiful lake in the center of Vancouver Island, BC. A newer build (1994), our home started out fairly builder basic, and we have been gradually adding our personal DIY touch to it. We’ve painted and DIYed our way through nearly every room on the main floor {some twice!}, and I think we are ready to tackle the basement next!

Simple and Natural ways to add Christmas decor to your Kitchen.

If you are a regular reader then welcome back!! Yesterday I shared our Christmas front porch and entry hall…

And now for an exciting part of the tour for me… our kitchen! It is so thrilling to share our kitchen this year because last Christmas we didn’t even have a sink or appliances or countertops installed until a few days before Christmas. So it’s pretty exciting to have this space in our home and I loved getting to “deck it out” for the holidays this year!

I kept it fairly simple and stuck with natural statement elements like pinecones and cedar boughs. These give a hint and feel of Christmas without being over the top.

A stainless steel apron sink in the cottage house.

I finally got around the hanging the DIY menu planning pallet sign that I made last summer…

A menu planning pallet on the wall.

The pallet on the wall beside the kitchen.

There are two Christmas wreaths flanking the stove in the kitchen.

The corner of the kitchen with a wreath hanging on the light.

Shelves decorated with kitchen items.

Mugs and bowls on the shelves in the kitchen.

There is a decorative star above the stove in the kitchen.

Bottles of sparkling water sit in a basket beside the stove.

A kitchen scale has apples sitting in it.

A sprig of evergreen is tied around a sparkling bottle of water on the counter.

Wooden cutting boards.

Pine cones in a decorative container.

The wooden dough bowl filled with pine cones.

A Merry Christmas banner above the sink in the kitchen.

There is a small cake stand with a Christmas tree on it.

A wooden canoe filled with pine cones.

This is one of my favourite spots to sit in our home – I love to sit and enjoy my morning coffee here or an evening glass of wine taking in the view of both the lake and our kitchen feature wall. All that glossy white subway tile with the blue accent hood fan really calms me and helps me feel revived to tackle life’s daily challenges.

Pendant lights above the kitchen island.

From our kitchen we look directly into our dining “room” area…

There is a wooden table with clear glass on it.

A kitchen counter with a small tray on it.

  1. I love your renovated kitchen! That apron sink is EXACTLY what I want for my own kitchen reno (someday), and I also love (and own) an olivewood cutting board and mortar & pestle.

I’m more of a forest girl and save blue for spring and summer decorating, but your decor suits your location perfectly!

  2. I don’t even know where to start, Krista, because everything is so so gorgeous. Love it all! But I’m obsessed with your kitchen reno. Those windows! That range hood? Oh my gosh. Love how a few simple Christmas touches make it feel so festive. You’ve definitely mastered the art of aqua. Merry Christmas! ~Kerri

  3. Your kitchen is beautiful, Krista, and so nicely decorated for Christmas. My favourite part of the Christmas decor is the pair of wreaths above the vintage sconces. I also really like the wooden dough bowl filled with naturals. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy seeing my fellow Canadian bloggers in this home tour series.

  4. Krista,
I am swooning over every inch of this tour. Love, love, love all of the blues in your holiday decor. I am going to “pin” away with this. Perfection!!!
    Much Love,

  5. Incredible, absolutely incredible! What an amazingly awesome kitchen, with spot on Christmas decorations. I’m gobsmacked. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous kitchen. Cheers and Happy Holidays, Ardith

  6. Your kitchen is a gem. Can’t tell from the pictures if you used a light blue or aqua paint. Can you share the paint details. The color is totally soothing and a must copy.

    1. Hi Bob, the walls are Whispering Spring by Benjamin Moore and the hood fan and planked peninsula is Wedgwood Gray by Benjamin Moore. The walls are slightly more blue with the hood fan/planking colour being slightly more grey/aqua but they work well together. Thanks for your kind comments!!
      Krista

  7. Everything looks so lovely Krista! I love your kitchen and the wreaths by the vent hood and that star are perfect for that space. So many pretty details. Love it all! Happy Christmas season to you friend!
