Charming Traditional Kitchen Tour {Hawthorne & Main}

Good morning, friends!

We just arrived home this past weekend from our Spring Break holiday. It was amazing to have had that time away with our boys and some of our extended family… but now I guess that it’s time to get back to reality!

While I was gone I had a couple of fabulous fellow bloggers share their favourite spaces. Did you see Erica from Designing Vibes light, bright, and airy living room? Or Amber from The Restless Arrow beautiful white {but still lived-in} family home tour?

And today I’ve got one more special space tour for you – Shonee from Hawthorne and Main is here to share her charming traditional kitchen with us.

Hello! My name is Shonee and I am the gal behind the blog Hawthorne and Main. My blog focuses on empowering women to DIY, from wood working to home decor to styling. I feel like if I can do it, so can you!

I was so happy when Krista asked me to share my favorite space with all of you!

We closed on our very first house when our first born was only 6 weeks old…
…It was a total fixer upper…. Like the place was unlivable. I knew it would be a lot of work, but WOW, it was A LOT of work. We didn’t even move in for 2 months because it required so much work.

One of the biggest projects was the kitchen. I don’t want to scare you too much with the before pictures…..but if you are curious you can see them in all their royal blue glory over here.

Even though I love white kitchens and hope to have one some day we ended up choosing a more traditional kitchen.

I have to say that the dark cabinets are nice at hiding dirt. I am sure my cabinets are dirty, but they sure don’t look it!

We decided to go with a pretty wild counter top. It is called delicatus gold. Looking back now I wish we would have gone with delicatus white….live and learn. I still really like them though.

The kitchen literally sits right in the middle of the house. Since we took down a few walls it feels very open now. I love having people over and still being able to feel like I am apart of the party, even though I am in the kitchen.

We tiled our own backsplash. It was our very first tiling job. For anyone who is curious about DIYing it….do it! It wasn’t that hard and we saved a bunch doing it ourselves.

I guess you could call this house our test house. We pretty much gutted the entire thing. We have learned so much along the way…..some things we love, some things we would change. Overall I have enjoyed the whole process. I would love to connect with you on Pinterest or Instagram!
