Classic Christmas Living Room Tour

I have to say that, this year, our Christmas Living Room is my favourite version of all Christmas living rooms from Christmas’ past.

Maybe even from Christmas’ future.

But definitely from Christmas’ present.

It might be the classic Christmas scheme.

Reds. Plaids. Buffalo check. Natural greens. And hits of black.

Or it might be the new flocked tree.

I love it… I really, really do.

But I think it is probably the new fireplace and mantel.

I mean, come on!? It’s kind of the elephant in the room, right?

It. changes. everything.

In a good way…

A good good way.

If you’ve been reading for a while, you know I love house tours. Room tours. Holiday tours.

And today combines the best of all that.

A principal room tour. For the holidays. Followed by awesome inspiration by some seriously talented bloggers, all happening over the next three days.

That’s what I’m talking about!

I’m still loving this  “O’Holy Night Lyrics Sign” that I DIYed last Christmas. I shared the full tutorial here if you want to make your own – you could use any song or quote or verse and create the same type of thing.

The Wagoneer Throw Pillow is my youngest’s favourite – and doesn’t it bring back a feeling of amazing family traditions from when you were a kid. Remember how station wagons used to have seats in the back that actually faced backwards?!?

This little wooden tree is one of my favourite pieces; I found it at HomeSense last year; and the plaid throws on the white chairs are both blanket scarves that I picked up at Walmart! $16 a piece!

Of course my pillows by Craftberry Bush through Society 6 are a fave – I love this red beetle one; and it’s definitely my boys’ fave.

Hey!

There’s that new mantel and fireplace!

Yup. Still pretty thrilled about it…

If you read my Mantel Decor post yesterday, you may have noticed that I swapped around some of the mantel decor already. I really wanted to use the Tin Can Luminaries and Boxwood Garland on our dining room table… so I used another of the pine and pinecone garlands that I bought this year at Costco along with some pretty red berry garland that I rescued from my sister and brother-in-law’s garbage pile last January!

See… #hoardingpaysoff

My Free Christmas Joy and Believe Printables ended up on top of the bookcases on either side of the fireplace…

That black buffalo plaid throw.

Seriously. #allthehearteyes. I really, really love it. It’s so soft and cozy and warm and I’m amazed at how much I LOVE a good hit of black and white in our Christmas decor. I picked that up at Homesense.

The Deer Buck Pillow is another one of Lucy’s creations (Craftberry Bush).

Our Willow Tree Nativity Scene is years old but it finds a place of honour every year…

This tree is definitely my favourite ever. I love the flockedness of it {that’s totally a real word}. I love the red and black and white decorations. I love the whole thing! And I promise that I’ll be sharing more pics and details about it later in the week…

Until then, did you see something you want to add to your decor this year??

  1. Krista! It’s all so very gorgeous!! The white walls, turquoise accents, Christmas plaid and the new mantel are all just totally swoon-worthy. I’m seriously having some envy issues over that mantel. It totally changed the room and is stunning! I know you’re loving being able to decorate it for Christmas this year. 🙂 Thank you so much for organizing the tour, my friend!!

  2. Absolutely beautiful, Krista! You have so many sweet little details. My favorite is that star above your mantel. Thank you so much for hosting this tour!

    1. Thank you Lauren!! That star is my new fave – it’s going to stay there all year long I think! I’m so thrilled we all could do this tour together:)

    1. Thanks Jenna! I normally avoid red in decorating but love it right now – it feels so crisp and festive. Plus, it matches the mulled wine I love to drink all holiday season long…

  3. Krista! Your living room is just beyond! I absolutely love every single Christmasy detail that you’ve shared. Your flocked tree is so pretty and your fireplace + mantel decor is just gorgeous! What really struck me as how much this whole room has changed in the past year – I love the white walls, they just allow everything to pop! Merry Christmas, my friend!

    1. Thank you Chelsea! I’m loving our flocked tree this year – and the mantel?! So excited that we got it done and can’t believe the difference it makes. Yes, the room has completely changed, right? My friend was saying that she took my 2013 tour the other day and couldn’t believe how far my decorating has come in the last three years. Must be the constant exposure to beautiful spaces, online! Merry Christmas to you as well!!

  4. I am so in love with everything your room represents, and it just feels good to look at!! I’m sure hanging out in there is even better! Is the log end table actually just a log or is it treated somehow or furniture? I love it!! We have 3 stump end tables that came from our property and we use them outside around the fire pit but I’m loving the thought of bringing them in possibly after seeing your darling room!! I love getting your emails, and your terrific, candid ideas and thoughts on how you get the decor to cooperate like you do! You’re an inspiration to me!!! Thank you 🙂

    1. Thank you so much!! The log end table is actually just a cut piece of log that I brought in a couple of years ago – I’ve never done anything to treat it. I made a finished rolling log side table in the summer (tutorial here) that would look great inside too, I think. Thank you so much for all your super sweet, positive comments! You made my day:) Happy holidays to you and yours!!

    1. Thank you Laura! I found that blanket back in September and knew I had to grab it – and that it would set the perfect tone for our Christmas decor this year. Happy holidays to you!

    1. Thanks Chelsea! I love the garland! Was planning to try to make one but found this at HomeSense… and just bought it. I love it in here at night with just the Christmas tree lights and fireplace going:)

  5. You home is a Christmasy wooded wonderland, Krista. Thank you so much for sharing it all. Cheers and Happy Holidays, Ardith

    1. Thank you so much Ardith! The temperature here has really dropped so we are enjoying how cozy it feels inside!

  6. Krista, your house looks SO awesome for the holidays, and your new fireplace looks FABULOUS!!! What a huge difference it makes in your living room! Absolute perfection! Thanks so much for organizing this awesome tour!
