Craft Room Progress: A Gift Wrapping Station {ORC Week 2}

You guys!!!

I. Am. So. Excited!! About this craft room makeover!

There are so many things in the works with it right now…

Do you remember what it looked like last week when I revealed the-mess-I-call-a-craft-room??!!

I told you all about how I am taking part in the One Room Challenge and trying to makeover this space in a six week time period?

Well here is a little review in case you forgot (or didn’t see) what I am starting with… For more details on the before and the entire makeover PLAN visit here.

I have come up with a colour scheme, based on this inspiration fabric from Online Fabric Store {you may have seen this same fabric take a starring role in our Master Bedroom as well – I just love it!}…

There will be a lot of blue (what a surprise!) with some accents of pink, yellow, and orange. I am hoping to use the fabric for things like upholstering my stools, sewing a bunting/pennant banner, and dressing up some DIY lampshades.

You might think that the colours seem a little bit wild. Okay, maybe they are, in fact, a little bit wild. But, for the most part, there are going to be bright pops of colour against a lot of white. White walls and mostly white furniture.

Speaking of furniture, remember that desk that I was saying I wanted to trade for a piece with more storage?

Well I found this old dresser at the Sally Ann – and it is just begging for a makeover, don’t you think? But maybe I should keep the stickers…

I also found some old lamps at a thrift store… matching ones for either side of my white storage hutch. They will be getting a little paint makeover and some new shades…

Oh, and with all those white walls and furniture pieces, you need a little energy in your drapes, am I right? I started sewing the drapes this weekend… using this gorgeous Premier Prints fabric from OFS called Emily  (corn yellow, slub). I love the large scale and graphic look of the design – and it really pops in this bold yellow colour, no?

In addition to sourcing these pieces and fabrics, I also started painting some wooden lettering from Craft Cuts to create some faux metal letters using Modern Masters Metal Effects. They aren’t finished yet but I love how they are looking so far…

I feel like the project is already it is coming together with having found so many pieces and made so many decisions this past week.

But I really actually only finished ONE project. But at least it is a CUTE, ONE project: this adorable DIY Gift Wrapping Station…

There used to be a glass block window here (which I hated)… so we figured out a way to install some pegboard overtop of it instead – and now it is an adorable and functional space to keep all of my gifty/wrappy supplies. Wrapping paper, gift bags, cards, tissue paper, ribbon, scissors, and tape. I’m ready to wrap any gift in a matter of moments (which is perfect because I am normally trying to wrap birthday gifts seconds before we are due at the actual party if not actually in the car on the way to the event. #secretprocrastinator

There is not much of a tutorial to this – we had a framed out space on our wall, but you could easily add pegboard and frame it out. Then I used the long angled brackets to hold the wrapping paper, and different sizes of pegboard hooks to hang the bags. The baskets are suspended on hooks as well, and are perfecting for stashing cards and wrapping materials so that everything is in one spot!

pin it to remember itThis DIY Pegboard Gift Wrapping Station is an amazing use of space and makes organizing your gift wrapping supplies functional and pretty all at once!

So right about now when I go into the craft room I try to focus only on this one little wall.

Because it is the only thing that is DONE.

And when I look around at the rest I realize that there is SO MUCH TO DO!! But I am so excited about finally creating a fun space that is really just for me, that I know the energy of that is going to sustain me. I am so thankful for this challenge already because it is forcing me to finally get organized and finish this never-ending-always-messy-craft-room project.

Hopefully next week I will have some completed drapes to share. Or maybe a completed dresser makeover.
