Organized & Colourful Craft Room Tour

Organized & Colourful Craft Room Tour at thehappyhousie.com

Good morning, friends!

I’m so excited to be part of a fun Craft Room Tour Series this week hosted by Angie of Country Chic Cottage.

Angie shared her amazing-creative-colourful craft room on Sunday, and then each day this week five fabulous bloggers are sharing their craft room tours.

My craft room is one of my favourite spots in our home – and not just because it allows me to keep my creativity from spilling over and creating mess and havoc throughout our whole home. But, because, I got to decorate it in such a personal way since it is a space {pretty much} mainly for me. So I used lets of fun colour throughout!

If you haven’t had the tour yet, I hope you enjoy…

The main craft table is supported by two 9-cube units that we reinforced by adding some wainscot paneling to the back of them. The two units are then topped with a large table – perfect for cutting fabric or laying out all kinds of projects. Each side is filled with these same clear plastic storage bins that I updated with chalkboard labels.

I’m in the process of changing a couple of things in the craft room – I’m replaced the chalkboard on the wall with some additional storage. I love the cute look of the chalkboard, but I was finding that I ended up just filling the cabinet top with “stuff” – and really needed some additional shelving. I’ll share my changes soon -once I get it all set up and functional!

One of my favourite areas is my pegboard gift wrap station – as well as the dresser and hutch unit that I converted to craft storage.  One thing you can never have too much of in a craft room? Storage!

Clear jars are such a fun and pretty way to display colourful craft supplies. I picked up all of the little aqua caddies at my local Dollarama store {what a find, right?!?!}.

I used some metallic paint from Modern Masters to create the DIY Faux Metal “oh happy day” letters, and the easy lined DIY drapery are made with some beautiful Premier Prints fabric from Online Fabric Store. The DIY Lamp Shades are also made with a great kit from I Like that Lamp as well as some gorgeous fabric from OFS.

Another favourite spot? The pegboard storage wall behind my sewing machine. It’s so amazing to have all this vertical storage, and great to having my sewing materials at such easy reach.

A lot of DIY went into creating this space, and it was definitely done on a thrifty budget. all of the furniture pieces are refurbished and second hand (aside from the two cube units).

    1. Thank you Teresa! They are from Canadian Superstore- but I have seen similar ones through World Market. Good luck in your search!

  1. What a lovely, bright space! It must be a joy to work in. I am just wondering about how you made the top for your worktable?

    1. Hi Lisa!
We were actually really fortunate that my father-in-law had that in his basement – it is an old drafting table top. I think you could also use a hollow core door from the hardware store and paint it out (a 36″ wide door), or a piece of plywood with some trim around the edges. Alternatively, you could do a wooden or butcher block top from somewhere like Ikea.

    1. Thanks Diane!! I absolutely love having a space for doing my own thing and keeping all that “creativity” (aka mess) out of the rest of the house!

    1. Thank you Meg! I just did a fresh purge and reorganized things that were starting to get a little sloppy, if you know what I mean. I love it when it feels so clean and organized, because I promise you – it doesn’t always look quite this neat:)
