October has arrived… it is foggy and cool here… watching the mist and fog over the lake in the morning is certainly putting me in the mood for Halloween – and to bring a little of that “October” indoors I created this fun chevron spider art inside these thrifted frames.
To make this fun Halloween Art you will need:
- vintage looking frames (or another regular frame would work but give a different look)
- fabric of your choice- a crisp, graphic print probably works best
- plastic spiders and assorted creepy gross insects (I got mine from the dollar store)
- Black spray paint (I used a Flat finish and love the effect)
- Mod Podge and a Brush
- Hot glue gun and glue
I started out with some frames that I picked up at my local Sally Ann for $2 and $1.
Before painting them I gave them a thorough cleaning. I also removed the picture from the small one.
Once the frames were dry, I took the picture inserts and used them to help me cut my fabric to size:
I then applied a thin coat of Mod Podge onto the pictures and attached my fabric directly to them, smoothing out any wrinkles or bubbles. For the smaller pictures I wrapped the fabric around the back of the picture and used some hot glue to secure the fabric at the back.
Then I played around with the placement of my spiders and scorpions until I liked the effect, and secured them for eternity with some hot glue:
I love the yellow and white chevron and how crisp it looks against the black frame and spiders. I couldn’t have all dark, dreary, scary decorations – that just isn’t me!
I love that it looks fun and “Halloween-y” but is still a little cheery and funky all at once…
The graphic look also really compliments my little Hand Sketched Oil Sharpie Pumpkins too…
And I think it ‘funs’ up the spooky DIY Spell Books and Faux Mercury Glass Potion Bottles…
This vignette won’t be permanent… I plan to use these frames on my Halloween mantel when I do that in a few days…. I have a few more thrift stores finds I am working on for the mantel and then I can’t wait to share it with y’all!
I may share this project at some of these housie parties
