DIY Double-Sided Cloth Napkin Tutorial {& Best Ever Ginger Cookie Recipe}
Here is a beautiful double sided napkin tutorial plus the best ginger cookies you will every try!!!
Good morning!
Christmas is just around the corner; in fact, last night we hosted the first of the two Christmas dinners we will be hosting this season. My husband’s two sisters will both be away over Christmas – one of them lives in a different town and has to work (boo!); and the other is going to visit her in-laws family for Christmas this year. That means we had to do our family Christmas dinner early, but I didn’t mind! I was all ready, having just set up my holiday tablescape design the other day…
You may have spotted the beautiful double-sided teal napkins during my Christmas tablescape tour?
Can you believe that I made those?!! Me neither!
And guess what? They were totally easy.
I was thrilled to partner with Riley Blake designs on this fun project and absolutely love the mini quatrefoil pattern I ordered in both aqua and teal.
Plus, for an added bonus, today I am sharing my VERY FAVOURITE cookie recipe. I truly think these are the Best Ever Ginger Cookies. And I’m not much for cookies. I think you are going to love them….
Welcome to my stop on the Riley Blake Stitch’n’Kitchen Holiday Blog Tour. Each day this month talented bloggers and the talented Julia of the Riley Blake Designs blog are sharing a great fabric tutorial featuring a Riley Blake Design as well as a favourite recipe from their own home.
So, you want to make some double-sided cloth napkins?
Then let’s get started, shall we?
Follow these simple steps and you will have your own!
I used 3 yards of each fabric, pre-washed it for shrinkage, and then cut mine into 16″ squares.
That is slightly smaller then most standard cloth napkins so you could definitely do 18″ or 20″ squares, but I wanted to get 14 napkins out of my 6 yards of fabric.
After you wash the fabric, iron it, then cut it into squares.
Place the right sides together, and pin them.
Then sew around three of the sides. Flip it inside out so that the right sides are facing out again. Now iron the open edges in.
Finally, topstitch along the open edge, and then all the way around the three other sides to create a nicely topstitched border around the entire napkin.
Easy, right?! And I am so pleased with the results.
The fabric is the perfect colour and pattern for our kitchen/dining room scheme, and I love the subtle quatrefoil design. The quality feels awesome as well, I can tell they are going to stand up well to many, many washings after dinners.
Maybe you spotted these during my recent Christmas Tablescape post….
I promise I am going to share my DIY Faux Fur Napkin Ring Tutorial really soon as well – even if my Brother-in-Law asked me if I skinned a Yeti for the napkin rings…
As part of the Riley Blake Stitch’n’Kitchen Tour Hop I am sharing my very favourite Christmas Recipe…

Thank you,
Violet
what seam allowance did you use for the napkins?
Thanks for sharing! How long does it take to make each one?
What kind of fabric did you use?
Hi Allison, I used a quilting weight cotton fabric. Hope that helps!
Ginger biscuits make me think of my great-aunt Joyce she loved them, me not so much
Hi,
The napkins are lovely. I was also wondering where you got your beautiful dishes.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Nancy
Hi Nancy,
My green pottery dishes are handmade in Mexico so they don’t have an easy source, I’m sorry to say! I am quite in love with them and actually bought them second hand from a friend. $15 for the whole set; quite a find I would say!
