DIY Song Lyrics Pallet Sign Wedding Gift

Today I am really excited the show you the Song Lyrics Pallet Sign that I created as a wedding gift recently for my friends’ Brit and Jeff’s wedding. They are such a fun, funny, cool couple and I wanted to make something personal for them to go along with the rest of my gift to them. So I created this little pallet sign using the chorus from their first dance wedding song “Safe and Sound” by Hawksley Workman.wedding sign thumbnail

I started out with a piece of wood off the same pallet you have seen a few times before.

My husband used his chop saw to cut one board into four equal pieces thus creating this square.

We attached them together from behind using strips of leftover molding screwed into all four boards.

Next I primed the front.

I took her inside and gathered my supplies: craft paint and brushes, lettering printed from the computer, scissors, a pencil and a pencil sharpener.

P1110910

First I gave the whole sign a coat of white craft paint.

P1110911

Then I cut the words out and played with the arrangement of them until I liked it. This took a while.

P1110914

I used the same technique as with my ombre pallet sign and coloured the back of the letters in with pencil to create DIY transfer paper

P1110915

Then I laid the words back down on the sign and traced over each letter with my pencil.

P1110916

This transfers the image onto the sign so you can paint the lettering.

P1110917

A little black craft paint applied with a small craft paint brush…

P1110918

It was looking a little too crisp and dark after one good coat of paint…

P1110920

That was solved with a little sandpaper.

 Distressed, softened, and done.

With slightly distressed lettering it looks aged and softer… I distressed the edges of the boards too to reveal some of the wood underneath.

Hope they like it!
