Fresh & Fab Family Room Makeover Reveal {FrogTape Paintover Challenge}
You guys!
It’s here!
Reveal day!!
The reveal.
It’s always my very favourite part of a project… the time when you get to stand back and take in all that you have created through your hours of planning, preparing, painting, purchasing, and pillow poufing.
I think you are going to be shocked and amazed with the difference in our basement now. I am so glad I had the chance to participate in this FrogTape Paintover Challenge because I am in. love. with. our. basement. family. room.
Like. Really really really in love with it!
I hope you all love it as much as I do!
If you’ve been following along on this whole journey, then you know that FrogTape challenged myself and five other bloggers to makeover a room in their homes following a specific design trend and using FrogTape as a key DIY tool in the process.
I was assigned the design trend “fresh & fab”…
I chose to makeover our basement family room as it was an rarely-used dumping ground and completely wasted real estate in our home. You can see all the gory “before” pictures as well as my original design plan here. You can also see the process I used for measuring, taping as well as painting.
When we last left this project, I had just painted the walls… and it was time to remove the tape to reveal the pattern!
I used the FrogTape for delicate surfaces when doing this project as we had just recently painted all the walls white – and the delicate surfaces is designed so that you can use it as early as 24 hours after painting your walls! Perfect for when you are completing your project on a tight timeline.
It was amazing how crisp and clean the lines came out…
Done!
And now let’s check out this space it in all it’s finished-for-the-reveal glory!
The TV Media area has been moved up to the front of the family room area, and I created a beautiful gallery wall with some Minted Art to add to the beautiful graphic punch that my painted greek key pattern has added to this space. The colour for all the walls is Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, and the greek key and irregular stripes in the room are both done in Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy.
We cozied up the TV area by bringing down our Ektorp sectional and patterned drapes down from the living room (maybe you saw our living room makeover reveal the other day?).
The alcove was given a fun and crisp new looks with the irregular patterned stripes that we painted. It makes the perfect cozy little game table corner, don’t you think?
In the back of the family room we created an updated “playroom” complete with an airhockey/ping pong table for the boys to enjoy with their friends. We also added some additional bookcases to round out the storage area in this space.
Along the other side of the back wall we created a music area with our newly brightened piano as well as a drum set and our guitars.
And who doesn’t love the before and after shots?
This is my favourite part…
We changed the old playroom area into the family TV area with the painted greek key feature wall…
And the old futon corner become the games table nook featuring the painted irregular striped walls….
The old TV area is now the playroom & toy storage area…
And the corner of clutter and old furniture has become the music zone…
I’m so excited that I got to work with FrogTape on this incredible makeover challenge. I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out!
Next week the voting will begin for this challenge – I will be back soon to share more details on that with you!
Although voting begins next week, you can still head over to see what the incredible reveals that my fellow FrogTape Paintover Challengers are sharing today!
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by FrogTape however all opinions are 100% my own.
Love your makeover! Where did you get the white shelves?
Where did you purchase the book shelves from?
Hi Kate,
They are actually made of melamine and I purchased them at Canadian Tire – a local big box/hardware store. I primed and painted them out in white.
I loooove how wide the bookcases are! Any chance you know the dimensions so I could find something similar? Most of the ones I’m seeing don’t look quite as wide or tall. Thanks! ❤️
Can you share where the shelving unit for the kids’ toys is from? Thanks!
My favorite parts: the picture between the windows and the game corner. My least favorite: the TV wall. Sorry I know it probably took a long time to do but to me it’s too busy and just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the room. That tape looks like it works really well. I enjoy reading your posts. I’d love to be able to change up my house more often. I’m just trying to get my husband to paint our living room a white color to lighten things up. No luck so far and he says I stink at painting so…..I’m waiting. Happy weekend ;c)
So gorgeous, Krista! Every little detail is perfection!
Looks great! I love the print above your couch! Where is it from? Great job!
I’m having a really hard time deciding which makeover I like better… this one or the living room! They are both so beautiful and I love how you were able to make this space more functional for your family. I love seeing rooms in a home that are pretty and actually useable for a family. Wonderful inspiration 🙂
LOVE LOVE LOVE the room! However I believe you will be removing the Greek key wall soon…it just doesn’t work in that space. But hey that’s my opinion. Great makeover!
Thanks Joan! Decor looks don’t always last that long around here;) But I do love how the greek key has a nautical feel to it and how it frames out our TV cabinet so perfectly. I even found navy and white greek key towels with coral edging for the other side of the room (our “mud room” cabinetry where we walk out to the lake). I’ll have to share that side soon!
You’re a creative genius Krista! It looks amazing!!
HA! Thanks Melissa;)
It looks amazing, Krista!! I love that you reused many of the items already down there as well, but they all look so fresh and new in your space. LOVE the painted wall features! Lot’s of memories will be made down there, I’m sure! XOXO
Thanks Christy – it’s true, we only bought a few new pieces, reusing much of what we had. It forced us to finally purge and then sell a lot of the old pieces and artwork that had been plunked there when we moved in. I hope there are a lot of memories made down there – so far there is a lot of drumming happening:) What was I thinking, letting my sister give my boys that drum set?!?
Wow! Absolutely beautiful!! Amazing transformation!
Thank you Laura!
Beautiful, every square inch of it! The impeccable attention to detail shows, Krista.
Thank you so much Marie! We are so happy with how it turned out:) Hope you are having a great week!
