Going Simply White in Less Than a Day {ORC Week 5}

You guys!

I’m so excited!

I finally made some real progress this week on the living room tweaking for the One Room Challenge.

We transformed our entire living room in less then a day with two beautiful crisp coats of Benjamin Moore’s Simply White.

I LUUUUUUUV it so much!

Have you heard of the One Room Challenge before? It is a blogger challenge hosted twice a year by Linda from Calling it Home…. Bloggers try to makeover a room in their home over six short weeks!

And really, it’s four weeks, because the first week is where we share our plan and the last week is our reveal.

ORC-LP-250x183

Maybe you have seen my previous posts through this challenge?

It’s been a little crazy because I’ve also started a big project making over our basement family room, so I missed posting one week…

Well, I’m definitely on track now and I can’t get over how giddy I am about the white paint.

White. Yes, seriously.

Simply White.

{But don’t you worry. I will be adding back in a lot of colour!}

Simply White OC-117

Did you know that Simply White is the Benjamin Moore Colour of the Year for 2016? I shared all about it a few months back. We even painted our kitchen cabinets and trim with it at the rental house renovation this summer. And I’ve been dying to use it in our home ever since…

But the truth is, we are a little short of time here, people.

In fact, our life is pretty short on time right now between two boys who are in spring soccer, t-ball, baseball, and basketball. We are out of the house four nights a week plus Saturdays.

I had one day. And I really do mean ONE day. To get this room painting wrapped up from start to finish.

I had Friday off work. And we had house guests arriving Saturday.

But you know how it is…

last minute

So out came my trusty HomeRight EZ Twist Paint Stick.

I have been in love with this guy ever since I saddled him up to transform our bathroom during the last ORC. I then used him again this fall to help my parents paint their living room and hallways. And last Friday he got another workout transforming our living room from Whispering Spring to Simply White in less then a day!

As soon as I got my boys off to school on Friday I got moving. All the furniture into the middle of the room and time for some serious wall patching {more details on that to come!}.

Once my prep was done, I got our my Benjamin Moore Aura paint in Simply White and my HomeRight EZ Twist. I love the Aura paint because I knew it would cover completely in two coats. Often painting white over a colour requires a good three coats and I just wasn’t up for that.

To use the EZ Twist Paintstick you just suck the paint up into the handle through the attachment designed for your paint can or bucket.

It will fill the handle most of the way…

At first it takes about 1/2 or a full handle of paint to fully saturate the roller, but once you get going it stays nicely saturated the whole time. {After painting I use the rounded end of my paint stir stick to remove all the excess paint from my roller sleeve – see this post here for more awesome paint tips like that}

Now that it’s flowing, you just roll… and twist the handle pumping more paint into the roller sleeve as you go. I managed to get most of a wall done with each handle-full of paint. It was so fast!! Yay!!

Truly – the cleanup is quite easy too. It comes apart where needed and rinses easily with warm water.

We got both coats done in less then a day – plus a coat to freshen up all the trim and baseboards!

What do you think? Love white?

If you are worried about the lack of colour at this point, don’t be. It’s on it’s way!!

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you might have noticed that our chairs arrived this week!! Woot woot!! These are Greene Tufted Upholstered Club Chairs and I got them on a fab sale from Wayfair.

You also may have seen my Instagram post the other day about the drapes I found at HomeSense.

They are striped textured linen and two 96″ length panels were only $35 Canadian  {for TWO panels, did you hear that?? for both!!}. I love their soft linen texture and colour and the indigo matches perfectly with our dining room drapes. So I have decided they are staying…

There is only a week left to pull this whole room together but I really feel like I’m getting there.

Here’s the list:

Here is my  “living room tweaking” list:

  1. Refinish Media Cabinet
  2. Paint bookcases
  3. Buy or Make new curtains
  4. Choose and order blinds from Blindster
  5. Order art for gallery wall from Minted
  6. Order couch from Wayfair
  7. Find some new chairs
  8. Look for lamps
  9. Paint the walls with Benjamin Moore Simply White
  10. Accessorize and finish off the space

We are almost there!! Of course I am still waiting on the sofa and blind deliveries and they may not happen in time, but the rest should be good to go.

I can’t wait to share the finished product with you next week!

  1. Krista I adore the drapes and tub chairs and I can’t wait for the reveal! I love the direction the space is going in. As a fellow ORC participant it’s been wonderful to gather some fantastic inspiration. I’d love for you to share your progress at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. Our readers would love to see it. The gathering is at http://www.decortoadore.net

    1. Thanks Kristi! I’m so thrilled with it too! I can’t wait to check in on your bathroom progress:) I’m sure it is going to be an absolutely stunner!

  2. Its going to be beautiful! I just painted our master Simply White and love it…still a work in progress, definitely needs some pops of colour. I was aiming to go along with the 6 week challenge but won’t make it. Don’t know how all you ladies do it! Now I wish I’d painted my main floor white too. The edgecomb gray we painted last year just seems so drab in comparison. Good luck with the rest of your transformation!

    1. It’s SO tough to get it done. Our couch won’t arrive until Monday… and our blinds are now backordered (I discovered today), and my art is now not scheduled to arrive until Thursday (was supposed to be Tuesday). AHH!! It doesn’t look like I’m going to “make it” either! But it’s soooooooo close! I know what you mean about how the other colours feel drab now… I’m looking around at the rest of our house colours (shhhh don’t tell my husband).

    1. Thank you Kimm! I can’t wait to get the rest of it pulled together… fingers crossed that everything makes it here on time:) Your little table is adorable!!
