My 5 Favourite Room Makeovers from 2015

5 fun and colourful room makeovers in 2015 at thehappyhousie.com

Happy New Year!!

I’m excited to be here this morning sharing my VERY VERY favourite thing from 2015 – our Room Makeover Reveals!

I remember writing my wrap-up post last December and realizing that I had started several room makeovers but had not finished a single one.

All year.

Not a single completed room makeover.

Well, that realization lit a fire under me.

It gave me the push to finally tackle those nagging little details needed to finally finish those makeovers that had been dragging on-and-on: our boys’ bedroom and our kitchen.

I even tackled two new projects as part of the One Room Challenge in both the spring and the fall this year: my Craft Room and our Main Bathroom. And we rounded out the year with an easy little makeover of our deck.

Since this Sunday is the DIY Challenge party: Room Makeovers, I figured I would take this opportunity to countdown my Favourite Room Makeovers from this year, Letterman style…

Our Deck Makeover

You have to check out this beautiful lakefront deck tour- so many colorful summery touches-29

This was a fun and easy makeover that involved some new furniture, pillows, greenery, a DIY Papsan Cushion Cover and DIY Outdoor Pouff. The outdoor sectional set was picked up on clearance at the end of season in 2014, so I was pretty excited to put it into use this spring and summer. We also picked up a new dining table, benches, and sideboard from Ikea. All in all, I’m thrilled with our new deck space and look forward to bringing it out of hiding again this spring!

My Craft Room Makeover

I love this colorful organized craft room makeover at thehappyhousie.com-23

I know!

I’m so lucky to have a craft room.

But, honestly, I think it is the only thing that adds a little sanity to this busy life-and-blogging-household- having a space I can go into and work and leave a mess without interfering in the space that the rest of my family uses daily.

Let’s just say that although I LOVE how my craft room makeover turned out… but it doesn’t always look quite like this.

Our Boys’ Bedroom

This truly felt like the makeover that stretched on forever.

Like, foreva.

It began with my plans in the summer of 2013!! (Yes, I said 2013). I started the main renovation on this space back in January 2014 and got it about 90% finished within about a month. But then those last little details got me… and it went unfinished and “un-revealed” for all of 2014!

I was thrilled to give myself the push and finish it up this past year and am so happy with how the reveal turned out!

{Though, to be honest, I’ve been tweaking it a little over the Christmas holidays and have a few changes to share with you soon!}

Our Coastal White Shaker Kitchen

So the fact that this is my #1 favourite room makeover probably goes without saying.

It was, also, a very long process.

We started the major renovation in September of 2014 with the help of a contractor as it involved new windows and doors and beams etc. I  functioned using a makeshift “kitchen” in our garage until the new space was functional, which wasn’t until a few days before Christmas in 2014.

It got really cold out there around Halloween. Try wearing gloves while cooking dinner over a hot plate. Good times.

But even once it was functional, there was still a ton left unfinished. And it took us most of 2015 (in between renovating house 1 and house 2) to get all of those details finished up.

I finally shared the full kitchen reveal  and our complete kitchen source guide this fall.

As I mentioned, these room makeovers were squeezed in between the two rental properties that we renovated this year as well – one of which I have shared the full reveal and budget for. The second of which I have all kinds of details coming soon on!

  1. Hi Krista – You have done quite a few room makeovers and they are all fabulous!! I love the way you mix colors and how every room is light and airy. The view from your kitchen and deck is breathtaking. Reading your blog is one of the major factors in my decision to move to a house on a body of water. I had to stop dreaming about it and “just do it”. I can’t believe my husband and I made it happen. I wish I could sit out on your deck with you so we could chat up a storm about all things creative and decorating. XO

    1. Hi Diane!! I wish we could have a chat on the deck about all things decorating too! I imagine that you have a little better weather then we do during the rest of the year, so I hope you get to enjoy your outdoor space right away. We have a fair bit (ok, a ridiculous amount) of rain here through the winter… but that’s what keeps everything around us green, I guess! Thanks so much for your super kind words Diane – I have long been a huge fan of your style and your blog so it means more then you know!! I can’t wait to follow along on your lake house makeover)

  2. What an amazing year you and your home had! I seriously love them all, but thought the deck might be my favorite until I kept scrolling and remembered that gorgeous new kitchen window. Can’t wait to see what you tackle in 2016!

    1. Thank you Melissa!! You had an amazing year as well – I found tons of inspiration through you and am so glad I found your blog this year. Looking forward to seeing what you tackle in 2016 too:)

    1. Aw, thanks Christy!! I don’t know if 2016 will involve quite that many major room makeovers… but you never know:) Looking forward to following your creativity this year as well!!
