My Early Autumn Harvest Mantel… and a Serious Case of Mantelitis

Okay. So I might have a little problem. I think the medical term is “Mantelitis”. I am obsessed in love with mantel-scapes. So much so that I have already mentally divided the fall season into four subsections: Back to School, Early Fall and Canadian Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Late Fall. Well today’s “early autumn” Harvest Mantel is inspired by all the fresh apples and pears around these parts these days. It even features some fun little DIY projects too….

Like the faux chalkboard burlap bunting, and the real chalkboard painted arrow and plaque…

But how about I come back tomorrow to share a little more about those chalkboard projects??

Today I am loving the fresh colours of the apples and pears- their brightness eases the transition from fresh summery goodness to cozy fall warmth…

The little crates, that I bought from Michaels in unfinished pine and stained like the one I showed you in my Fall Harvest Wreath post, are another of my favourite additions.

Especially the mini crates. I love everything miniature. Or at least most things.

And did you notice the little bicycle? It makes me think of riding my bicycle through the countryside on a glorious crisp clear fall day whilst collecting apples, pears, hydrangeas, and mums in my carry basket.

Bringing all of them home to decorate my early autumn mantel with.

That is actually how I gathered all the things you see on this mantel you know.

I love crisp, clear, sunshiny days. Early autumn is one of my favourite times of the year.

Before all, all, all the grey fog and rain, rain, rain arrives.

    1. Hi Kim! We made this faux mantel just so I could have a season décor spot – that was severely lacking around here before. Now I love it!!! Thank you so much for your visit and comments!

    1. Thank you Marty! It is a nice transition between summer and fall I think… using fruit and a harvest theme. Later in the season I will do more of the traditional fall leaves etc.. but can’t wait for Halloween decorating in the middle of that!! Thank you for hosting every week!

  3. I absolutely love this! And totally random, but I have that exact same bike!! I bought it at a cute little shop, and it makes its way into all of my bookshelf decor.

  4. This is one of the cutest, happiest Fall displays I’ve ever seen! I love all of the elements you used … the chalkboard buntings are so fun, and I must find a little bike!

    1. Thank you Abby!! That is so kind- I would probably love to redo my mantel every week but I am trying to stick with one for a few weeks at a time (once a week might be a little over-the-top right… and of course four mantels for the fall season totally ISN’T over-the-top. LOL)! Have a great day!!

  5. I love it, Krista! And I think it’s too cute how you have the season divided into different decorating times. I’m sitting over here trying to figure out how to make my fall mantel work until spring. Ha!!

    1. Lol Laura! Love it… I am sure my husband wishes I were more like that and that I didn’t have to constantly change everything around!! Can’t wait to see your fall mantel – I know it will be fabulous!

  6. I’m obsessed with mantel decor and small vignettes too! 🙂 I love how you decorated it yours Krista; so warm and fall! 🙂 & also like the idea of you diving your ideas in 4! 🙂 perfect! can’t wait to see more! & I love those mini crates from Michael’s too, I have 2 of them, just waiting to see how I will be decorating them! 🙂

    1. Thanks Ashley – I agree, it is still fresh and colorful like early fall… I will save my deep oranges and yellows and browns for a little later in the season:) Halloween decorating is soon!!

  7. I love the bushel baskets! And I really like the colour scheme you have chosen. Not your typical brown/orange/red – I like how you mixed in the pale blue.

  8. That looks really cute. My husband has an opinion about decorating (darn!) so he would never let me get away with anything like that (too feminine for him).

    1. Hi Andrea! My husband saves his opinions for the big stuff and lets me toil away with these little temporary projects and designs without too many comments… he may not actually be a fan of it but doesn’t really fuss. Thankfully!

  9. You’ve done a wonderful job creating a fun Happy mantel filled with color! I’m going to use your little ditty at the end of your post….Home wasn’t built in a day. Too cute, love it!

    1. Hi Vickie! I always love to say that- it is so true and represents my whole philosophy about creating a home you love one step at a time, and the definition of that changes from day to day sometimes!! It is never really “done”!

  10. Krista, I LOVE what you did with your mantel-scape and how you put all of these great elements together! It looks amazing! I’m trying to get there with my mantel for fall, though it will most likely be decked in Halloween! Thanks for sharing and pinning! Have a happy Monday!

    1. Thanks Cindy! I am already planning what I will do for Halloween – see, this mantelitis is a serious condition! Have a great week and thanks for your kind comments!!

    1. Thank you Petra!! I can remember going into the grocery store as a child and loving the miniature dish soap bottles so much… kind of strange, but I have always love mini things!
