#Sparking Joy: Purging Books following the KonMari Method
Tips on how to purge books based upon the KonMari method!
Good morning!
And welcome back to Week four of my #SparkingJoy journey following the Marie Kondo Method as outlined in her book “the life-changing magic of tidying up”.
This week’s focus is Purging Books.
Ugh. This has been a bit of a tough one.
I’ve been reading through this amazing book and following along with Marie’s suggested methods for getting organized; once and for all. I’m thrilled to be in cahoots with these bloggers on this #SparkingJoy journey:

In week one I shared my first big step in this journey. Tackling my clothing. I wrote about tips for purging your closet as well as an idea for what to do with all that clothing you purge: how to host a clothing exchange!
During week two I talked about purging and de-cluttering my Accessories and Make-up.
And this week, following the correct order as laid out by Marie, the area to tackle was books.
Now, I must tell you that books are a tough one for me.
I love me a good book. Not only are they an amazing source of entertainment, but they can be so pretty and interesting to look at too. Plus, it feels like they hold this whole world of promise. The promise of a story that you don’t know yet. An experience you haven’t had. People you haven’t met but want to meet.
Does any of that make sense?
So when it comes to getting rid of books or novels, it can be a little-wee-bit hard.
Marie’s method has you start by laying all your books out (on the floor preferably). Then, one by one, you pick the book up and listen to your intuition about whether it “sparks joy” for you.
Listen to your gut here people.
The trouble comes with those books you haven’t read yet. But that you hope to read one day.
Marie wants you to ditch them. If you haven’t read it yet, you aren’t going to.
That’s tough. I’m still undecided on a few of them. And to be honest, it was such a busy week (if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that I spent Friday/Saturday at Blogpodium in Vancouver) – so I didn’t quite FINISH this task.
Hope to be done purging next week? I’ll report the rest to you all then.
In the meantime, you can get started on purging your books… and head over to visit my fellow #sparkingjoy bloggers to see how they made out with this challenge this week….

Why slavishly follow someone else’s method, especially when it fundamentally doesn’t make sense? How can a book you haven’t yet have the time to read be judged? Personally, I give away books I know I will never read again, or else get them from our great public library in the first place.
Krista! I should have known we’d be on the very same page this week too! She sure makes it sound easy, and I guess that’s a good thing, but man this was a tough one! Can’t wait to hear about Blogpodium my friend! I so wish I could have joined you!!!
