Quick and Easy Office Area Updates

My friend at Somerset Lane is sharing her quick and easy updates to her office area!

As I mentioned the other day, I am taking a vacation this week in honour of it being Spring Break around this neck o’the woods and Bette from Somerset Lane  has stepped up and offered to share a project with y’all in my absence. She is here to share some fabulously quick and easy office area updates that were both simple and completely transformative to her small office space! I love simple projects with big results, don’t you?!

Take it away, Bette!!

Hi ya, Happy Housie readers! I’m Bette and I blog over at Somerset Lane. We moved into our house in the summer of 2013 and we have been slowly adding our own personality and touches to our home.

One of the areas, that that has needed my desperate attention was a teeny tiny little office area, that I share with my family. It is where I blog from, pay bills from, and spend way too much time looking through Pinterest and Facebook!

Pictures on a shelf in the office.

I showed everyone what a hot mess my teeny-tiny little office area was last fall. Here’s a before pic. Be prepared, this is not for the faint of heart. Please do not hold your breath too long.

An office area with a banister around the desk.
PLEASE DO NOT PIN!!

And so that I can redeem myself, here is the after…

A white desk with white shelves above it.

Awww… Breath!

Here is what I did…
  • I got rid of the junk (genius, I know!)
  • New desk
  • Added shelves to show off pretty things,
  • Get rid of old printer, buy smaller one,
  • Keep only essentials on desktop,
  • Move ugly file cabinet elsewhere
The desk came from Target, the Threshold line. The little printer table came from Ikea and holds all the printer essentials, and extra paper. I moved the floating shelves from my daughter’s bedroom, to add height to the space.
Since this area is open to the rest of the house, I kept the colours neutral with a slight pop of colour.
There are family pictures on the white shelves above the desk.
I used some black and white pics of my kiddos when they were younger, a puppy pic of our first fur baby, a watercolour print of Vancouver from a trip 10 years ago. The “Life is Beautiful” print was made using PicMonkey and then printed on my little home printer.
A gold bowl on the desk.
I found this beautiful brass bowl at Goodwill a few months ago for a $1. It holds my husband’s business receipts until I get around to input them into a spreadsheet for the accountant.
Shelves in the office with flowers and plants on it.
I love plants, and I think we can all benefit from a little extra oxygen in our lives. 😉  I found the little planter at Goodwill for a $1 and the plant is a gorgeous Philodendron Silver.
And to remind you again what a hot-mess this area was, here is a side-by – side…
The before and after pictures of the area.

And a nice clean pic…

The after picture with a clean desk and shelves.

I still have quite a bit to do in this area, but it is so much easier on the eyes now. Don’t you think?
