10 Gorgeous Outdoor Rooms (& an exciting announcement!)

Today I’m sharing some beautiful and inspiring outdoor living room ideas to help you create a space that is welcoming and cozy to enjoy on those long summer days and nights.

The last few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind.

We finished off the school year on June 29th complete with all the field trips, special events, report card writing, and classroom cleanup that that entails.  On the 25th, one of my oldest and dearest friends and her family arrived to visit home for month from Switzerland.  And I kicked off the end of the school year with a very-needed girl’s getaway trip to the BC Okanagan with two of my oldest friends and my sister-in-law.  We also finished landscaping the front yard and my husband tore out the fence in the back.  We’ll be having that fence replaced and then we can start to clean up and landscape our backyard as well.  During this time the kitchen has been underway but kind of “on-hold”.  All the cabinets are in and we were waiting on countertop installation until yesterday.  It’s finally in, which means we are on the last legs of that part of our renovation as well.  I will be sharing all the details on the kitchen next week!  It’s SO GOOD!!

If you’ve been following along for any length of time then you probably know that this year has been a huge transition year for us.  It has been one of those journeys that began one way and really ended up taking us in a completely different direction.  I’ve definitely had a lot of questions both on social media and in real life about why we sold our lake house, and that is a long and windy story to be sure.  But I’ll be sharing all the details next week along with a new and exciting announcement I have: we have found our summer home at the lake!  We closed on it yesterday and take possession tomorrow, and we are thrilled that we will have most of the summer to enjoy our new summer property and get back out on the boat once again.  The house comes furnished (though over time I’m sure we will change and adjust things to suit our style).  The first area I want to focus on is the outdoor space.

There is a lovely deck overlooking the lake with a simple table and chair set, but I’m hoping to create a much more welcoming and cozy outdoor living space out there almost immediately so we can get the maximum use out of our new lake view deck.  Here is how it looked when we viewed the property a couple of weeks back, with the furniture that the sellers are leaving behind….

Needs a little something, right?  It’s about 12′ deep by 19′ wide, so I think we will have room to create both a seating area with a small sectional and a fire pit, as well as an outdoor eating space.  Not really sure if the current furniture will make the cut yet or not; will have to see how comfortable it is once we get the cabin tomorrow.

So with outdoor spaces on the brain once again, today I’ve joined up with my friends to share some beautiful outdoor rooms with you.  And the best part is that there are all kinds of DIY tips in these posts for how you can turn your basic outdoor space into a fab outdoor room! I hope you find these spaces as inspiring as I have…

Well, tomorrow is the day. Rain is in the forecast, but I’m hopeful it will hold out for moving in.  Although it’s not a huge job, having come furnished, we do have a lot of personal items and art that I’ve been hoarding for the day we find our lake cabin, and I can’t wait to see it all in place again!

    1. Hi Jami,
We are definitely excited to have a space to enjoy the lake again, and to use as a bit of a getaway from our busy daily lives:) Can’t wait to get the boat out on the water again, but we’ve been having yucky rainy and cool weather lately! Boo!
