10 Inspiring Wooden Decks

I have put together the most clever wood deck ideas to inspire you!

Summertime means deck time.

But this year, as we were working on getting our deck ready for summer, we realized that it is almost time for us to resurface it completely.

The current surface is fiber glass, which I didn’t even know was actually a deck surface material until we bought this house. And while this fiber glass deck was purported to last a lifetime, it does not seem to be holding up to it’s word.

We have had to patch and repair several splits in the deck surface and after this year, are concerned that if we don’t act soon, the structure of the deck itself may become water damaged over the winter.

I dream of replacing it with a solid wood deck surface and have been searching high and low for inspiration. I wanted to share some of these gorgeous inspiring wooden decks with you…

There is just something about the warmth and beauty of wooden decking, and I have been pinning inspiring eye catching decks for a long time now. I know that wooden decking it not maintenance free, but the feeling it creates in your outdoor space is incredible…as these inspiring wooden decks attest to.

A large wrap around wooden deck.

I love the beautiful warm colour of the wood on this deck Via Softwoods . The railing is really cool too- I was thinking we would do a clear glass railing but I wonder if a wire one like this might be more affordable and easier to keep clean.

A panelled wooden deck with garden all around it.

Isn’t this an absolute dream space? I can’t get over the beauty of the way this deck Via homedit integrates with the natural landscape. I would love to do something like this on our lower deck – cover the cement with natural wooden decking and try to integrate the lush garden.

A large wooden deck with a built in sectional couch.

This enormous deck with integrated furniture Via This Old House shows how you can integrate different zones and tiers into your deck by changing the levels of it. I had never considered changing levels on our deck until I saw this image and it really got me thinking…

A small wooden deck with wrought iron railing.

I love the way they mixed the stunning wood pattern with a beautiful inlay on this deck Via Savenet. You could do this to ground a seating area and you wouldn’t even need an outdoor deck rug!

A covered wooden deck porch with a large table in the middle.

I could see many hours of entertaining on this gorgeous deck Via Softwoods – I especially love the high peaked ceiling. I would leave the walls open in our particular application, but a pergola or roof line over a wooden deck would be beautiful.

A deck with a retractable wall making it an indoor outdoor deck.

Um, need I say more about this stunning deck Via Tervola Designs? If we could have afforded doors like this, well… then perhaps we wouldn’t live in our house? I know this is a super high-end look and out of our range, but I had to throw it in for the pure beauty of it.

A colourful wooden terrace deck.

Doesn’t this deck Via Cococozy just invite you to come hang out and enjoy a relaxing cocktail? I love the way all the beautiful furnishing looks that much more inviting on a beautiful natural wooden deck surface.

A neutral sparse wooden deck overlooking a forest.

I love the wooden decking and stairs on this gorgeous long view deck Via interiorclip. This feels a lot like what our deck might look like if it were covered.

A tiered wooden deck with lush green plants around it.

I would love to add some sort of roofline or pergola like this one Via Softwoods. Our current space gets so hot in the summertime that you can’t even walk outside on the deck during the middle of the day. I know that a natural wooden surface would not get so painfully hot- but it would still be fabulous to incorporate a pergola or peaked roof line to provide us with some shade in the heat and rain cover in the spring and fall.

A stone island built into this deck with bar stools.

How fun is this bar setup on this deck Via Alocrest? I love the built in entertainment/bbq area – it would be fun to incorporate this into a new deck design, though it might be better suited to a ground level application then our second story deck!

Inspired to update your deck? I know it’s not in the cards for this year…but maybe next spring we will tackle the project of resurfacing our deck and adding some new railing.

This is awesome! Pin it to remember it!
