10 Simple Classic Fresh Summer Decorating Ideas

Today I’m sharing some simple summer decor ideas that will leave you with plenty of time to enjoy the fleeting months of summer.

The thing about summer decor is that it should be simple.

Classic.

Fresh.

Classic textures like sisal, jute, baskets, wood.  Fresh cut blooms and bowls of seasonal fruit. Pops of fresh colour inspired by nature: the beach, the sky, sunshine, the mountains, trees, lakes, and of course pretty flowers.  All the goodness and beauty of the outdoors.  Because that’s what summer is really about!

If you’ve been following along for a while then you might know that sharing our summer decor in our old home was one of my favourite posts to write. Not just that, it was almost definitely my favourite way to decorate (Christmas is a close runner-up).  Even as we work on finishing up our new kitchen (which I LOVE), it’s hard to compete with the feel of our old one.

Beachy blues and full of coastal touches.  There are some things I miss about our old living room, and some things I was ready to change.  But definitely THE LIGHT.  Those windows were my favourite…

The living room has a small fireplace and a blue octogon table.

The living room has a white couch with rivets and throw pillows.

This year things were a little different in our new home. Lots of white and green and some pops of blue – it still feels bright and calm and airy.

There is a wooden floor and white armchair.

A large white light is hanging over the dining room table.

Our decor this summer is all about fresh greenery.  Our summer mantel decor is super simple and inspired by the free printable tropical leaf prints I shared…

The fireplace mantel is a dark grey and has small shelves with framed prints on it.

And what says summer more than coastal style?!  I love the white mixed with gorgeous textures and warm wicker/wood tones in my friend Ashley’s modern coastal style home tour at Modern Glam…

White slipcovers are another gorgeous summer classic.  I love the pops of colour added with the fresh florals in Janine’s summer home at Happy Happy Nester…

And speaking of summer florals, pops of pinks and oranges add as much summer feel as blues and greens in Leslie’s beautiful and classic 100 Year Old Home…

Even neutral lovers can create a fresh summer feel by mixing textures (like these vintage bread bowls) and soft colours (like this blue bench) at She Gave it a Go…

It doesn’t matter if you live near the beach to create a summer feel.  Even if you’re land-locked, you can create a classic, airy summer feel with lots of crisp white and pops of blue, as my friend Sarah from Life on Virginia Street proves in her stunning summer home tour at Life on Virginia Street…

One of my favourite blogging friends who does “Summer” beautifully all year around in her Florida home is Chelsea, from Making Home Base.  I know you’ll love her home tour; it’s full of gorgeous summery touches…

Summer decor should be like a breath of fresh air.  Now heres to hoping that we get to enjoy some summer weather around here for the last few weeks of this (my favourite) season…

Want to remember this?  Then PIN it!
