5 Minute Dollar Store DIY Hat Wall

Today I’m sharing a very quick (5 minute!) DIY project that involves dollar store summer hats to create a fun, cute, and on-trend DIY Hat Wall.

The other day I was at the dollar store looking for those cute mini clay pots I used in the clay pot succulent wreath that I shared last week, and I spotted all these super fun and cute summer hats for ridiculously reasonable prices.

Hats laid out on the table.

I thought, “hey, I should do a hat wall”… and then my mind starting wandering to all of the potential places that I could put a hat wall in our new house.  And, well, there aren’t many places left inside.  Tear down a few walls and you start to run out of display space.

SO… I thought, why not outside?  Right?!  I mean, it’s kind of a perfect little summer decor project so it suits an outdoor space perfectly.

We have this cedar privacy “wall”, for lack of a better word, outside on our deck that was screaming for something decorative to break up ALL. THAT. CEDAR.  I mean, don’t get me wrong – I love cedar, and the DIY cedar privacy screen that we built at out last hour was one of my favourite outdoor features.  But this one isn’t as much my fave, though it serves a very useful purpose of making our deck feel completely private and secluded.  It just needed a little dressing up, am I right?

After buying my dollar store summer hats, I grabbed a handful of push pins and set to work…

Done! Such a an easy DIY project!

I think it’s a fun and cute display, and love how it creates a cozy feeling in this little corner of our deck space…

Plus, if anyone is over and it’s sunny and hot and they forgot a hat, well, there you go.  I guess I should hang a little bucket full of sunglasses beside them, right?  And maybe move the drink cooler over to that corner of the deck as well.

And, today I’m joined by a fabulous group of blogging friends who are also sharing their Summer DIY Ideas as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Series…

    1. Hi Maureen,

Yes – I thought of that. I don’t think I’ll worry too much about it unless we are due for a big rainstorm. They’ll dry if they get a bit wet… but when it pours rain we put all our deck cushions under cover as well, so I can just put them under cover at the same time if it seems like it’s so rainy they’ll get ruined:)

  2. Such a perfect summer project! I LOVE hats and they look so sweet on your cedar privacy wall. So true. You have plenty just in case a guest needs one 😉 x
