Strangely enough, today’s post is one of my favourite of the year! I love the simple act of making my gift wrapping special and pretty…even if I haven’t had a chance to wrap more than a couple of gifts yet this season... or even buy them 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. Today is my birthday! After I finishing ferrying my youngest to and from piano lessons we are going out for a big family dinner which means that I don’t have to cook or cleanup. 🙌🏼 As much as I love hosting it’s fun to have a break. A highlight this holiday season? Having a new kitchen to bake in! Last year we had just moved in and I didn’t do any holiday baking myself (thanks to my Mom for stepping in on that one!). This year we’ve already made our way through our first batch of our favourite holiday cookies - these mint chocolate candy cane kiss cookies. If you love mint chocolate, you’ve got to try them! As Christmas approaches, I’ve been reflecting more and more on what I’m thankful for. I have to admit that I’ve had a difficult Autumn this year and have allowed myself to dwell in places of negativity much more than during any other time in my life. But as I worked on photographing, editing, and writing my Christmas tour post(s) this week, I realized that I’ve been focusing on things that are temporary, changeable and unimportant. Dwelling in a place that isn’t positive takes a toll on your soul after a while, and part of the point of Christmas is the wholeness of our soul.
I am choosing, now, as the holidays approach to focus daily on all that I am thankful for and all that I am blessed with. Gratitude breeds joy and peace, right? And today I’m very grateful for our home, our family, our friends, and how far we’ve come this past year.
