Christmas Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen

Want to make your home extra festive this holiday season? These simple tips for adding Christmas decor in the kitchen will make your kitchen cheery and bright just in time for the holidays.

Do you extend your Christmas decorating into the kitchen? If you don’t, I recommend you try it this year! Truthfully, I spend more time in the kitchen most days than I do relaxing in the living room.  It is the hub of our home and, even in our small open-concept cabin, it seems that a good portion of our time at home centres around the kitchen.  Adding festive Christmas touches to the kitchen can be practical at the same time as brightening your spirits with it’s festive, holiday charm.

Since I’ve kept things simple in the cabin this year due to space constraints, I maintained that simplicity in the kitchen as well.  I’m sharing some Christmas decorating ideas for the kitchen, using examples from our cabin this year, as well as some ideas from our kitchens of Christmas past.  I hope you find some beautiful inspiration for decorating your kitchen this holiday season.

Today I’m taking part in a holiday home tour hop hosted by my friends at Modern Glam, Happy Happy Nester, and My 100 Year Old Home.  Make sure to check out all of the lovely Christmas’y rooms at the bottom of today’s post.

My favourite simple ways to add some festive Christmas spirit to your kitchen include using what you have and what is practical.  Adding some natural greenery and a few of your favourite festive holiday decor pieces really brings in the holiday spirit to!

Create a warm drink station

It can be hot chocolate, apple cider, tea, or coffee.  Whatever your favourites are, by creating a warm drink station that you leave out and on display you invite your family and friends to take part in one of the coziest rituals of this time of year. Relaxing and enjoying a warm drink together!

Include and display Christmas treats…

Christmas treats are one of the best things about the holiday season. Whether it be delicious cakes or cookies, fresh Christmas oranges, pomegranates, or gingerbread; treats and Christmas foods are a practical and easy way to “decorate” the kitchen with items you already own and will definitely want and enjoy during the season!

Add some natural greenery, garlands, boughs, and wreaths

I love to bring Christmas greenery into the kitchen during the holidays. It’s such an easy (and thrifty) way to give a space an elegant, rustic, and natural Christmas feel without going over the top with tree ornaments or bulky Christmas decorations. I always love the contrast of greenery and pops of Christmas colour against all the white surfaces in the kitchen.

Use what you have and what you love – not just for display but for life

Add a few special decor pieces, cute festive signs, or candles. Or leave out your Christmas mugs, bowls, or plates to add a festive touch with items you can use everyday over the holidays.
