Thrifty & Classic Christmas Front Porch Decor

Finally!

I’m so excited to be revealing our newly re-sided front porch!

The siding has slowly been making its way around the house and has landed on the porch just in time for the holidays. With the beautiful new siding {details below} I stuck with a fairly simple and classic Christmas front porch decor approach this year.

I focused on bringing in fresh greenery, a fresh wreath, and pots stuffed full of branches, greenery, and red berries {see below for an explanation of how I made them!}. Then I just threw in a few thrifted and vintage finds like an old sled, vintage cross country skis, and some thrift store skates.

Welcome in….

Today I’ve joined up with 9 other talented blogging friends who are sharing their Christmas front porch decor. I can’t wait to take in all of the beautiful inspiration and fun ideas.

If you’re new here, then welcome! I’m Krista and I’ve been blogging for about five years now. I share all kinds of decorating, organizing, DIY, and craft projects as well as the odd recipe and lifestyle related post. Decorating for the holidays is one of my absolute favourite things to do… and to be honest, it never seems “done”. I’m always tweaking and moving things around! So come on back over the next few weeks to check out the rest of our home decorated for Christmas.

Today it’s all about our front porch…

The pots are really easy to throw together every holiday season. I visit a local farm market where they sell red branches and buy a couple of bundles of them. Then I usually cut the greenery myself from around the neighbourhood, or *ahem* my husband goes out and harvests it for me. But this year, with his achilles injury, and the insane amount of rain we’ve had, I just bought a few bunches of cedar and pine. I also picked up some red berries from a local floral/garden center. They are related to holly but without all the prickles!

Simple stuff the branches into the center of your pot (still full of soil from your summer/fall planters), and then fill the rest in with greenery. Top it off by adding the berries twigs as well as some large pine cones if you can find any of those. Such an easy way to add a festive touch to your pots without spending much money or changing out what you already own.

The vintage finds I added to the porch are some of my favourite details. I have some old cross country skis that I picked up from the side of the road a few years back (don’t worry – they had a “Free” sign on them!). And I found this vintage sled through an online garage sale a few weeks back; isn’t it perfect? It’s in such great shape for an old sled!

The huge fresh wreath was a ridiculously fantastic price at Costco! I picked up this wooden stag head at Michael’s on a 50% off sale and simply attached it to the wreath with a wide plaid scarf (also a thrift store find), and I think the mix of plaid and pop of white wood are all it needs to really make the porch pop. I could attach some more berries and pinecones along the edges of the wreath, but I ‘m kind of loving the simplicity of the greenery. And really, ain’t nobody got time for that this time of year…

I’ll be sharing our Christmas entry hall next, including another free printable holiday banner…

In case you are wondering, the new siding is Hardie Shingle and the colour is Boothbay Blue. The front door is painted in Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal – which will likely change now that the siding is completed, but it’s staying for now!
