Coral Over Pink Chalky Paint Child’s Table and Chair Set
I am a boy mom. A mother of two boys. No girls.
I always, always, always thought that I would have a girl. After having one boy I assumed that the second MUST be a girl. I couldn’t possibly have two boys… we have way more girls then boys on my mother’s side so somehow that meant that I completely expected a girl.
And then he was born. Boy 2.
It was quite a shock. And of course, now, I love it. I wouldn’t trade my boys for anything. But I still held onto the hope that down the road a little girl might come along.
One day when I was out garage saling I happened upon a 65 year old child’s table and chair set. And even though I had two boys, I thought it would be perfect for a little girl’s room. If we ever had one.
And then I waited. And it sat in the garage. And sat. And sat.
And the time came when I figured we were past the new baby stage. But I still wanted to do something special with this little set… so I gave it a makeover in coral over pink chalky paint using Country Chic Paint in Sweet Dreams and Cherry Blossom.
As I said, the previous owner told me that this table set was about 65 years old. The lines were adorable but it was in extremely rough shape, with all kinds of marks and paint stains from years of being unused. I started by giving that table a solid base coat of beautiful bold pink in Cherry Blossom.
I then gave it a top coat of Sweet Dreams… which is a soft coral shade.
I let the top coat of Sweet Dreams dry for about half an hour before distressing it with a damp rag. I distressed off the Sweet Dreams, revealing the Cherry Blossom, around the edges of the table top and around the spindly parts of the legs. I really love these two shades together- they are so pretty on their own and look so subtle and beautiful when distressed…
Once both coats of paint were dry, I used some clear natural wax to protect the table. I spread it on with my beloved wax brush…
And then buffed it off with a clean, dry rag. The clear wax gives such a smooth finish and beautiful sheen.
To update the chairs I painted them with a couple of coats of Simplicity. Once dry, I used a stencil and added some pretty flowers to the seats using Sweet Dreams.
The coral color really pops against the fresh white. I love how the set turned out!
As I mentioned, I had held onto this set for a couple of years in case I ever had a little girl…but decided it was time to refresh it and give it away when a friend of mine had a baby girl. I hope she loves how it turned out just as much as I do!
So very sweet – I know this will be such a hit! Thanks for linking up at the Pretty Preppy Party! xx, b
