DIY Gold & White Herringbone Decorative Flower Pots
I will show you how to make your own flower pots with a gold and white herringbone pattern!
My winter décor this season has been pretty darn neutral.
Shocking, for me.
If you have been following along for a while then you know that I am a big fan of bold colour…
I’m like a bird… I gravitate to brightly coloured objects wherever I go.
So I must admit that I am already drooling over the bright spring flowers popping up in the grocery store and looking forward to adding more colour combinations back into our home very soon.
I can’t wait for SPRING!!
But for January, I must say that I have really enjoyed this calm, simple, and neutral look in our home.
Perhaps it is because it has been nice to come home to such a peaceful space after spending hours renovating another house…
And as part of that neutral soft décor, I have loved how much warmth all the gold accents have added.
I consider gold a neutral, do you?
And I just love the gold on my DIY gold and white herringbone decorative flower pots…
To make these I used:
– Clay pots (I picked mine up at a local dollar store)
– White craft paint, gold craft paint (not pictured)
– Gold paint pen (I used an oil based sharpie paint pen in gold)
– Paint brush
I started by painting my clay pots with a couple of coats of white craft paint….
Once it was dry, I used a Sharpie (oil based) gold paint pen to sketch on my herringbone lines…. I started with a rim around the top.
Next, I sketched somewhat straight lines from the top line I had drawn down to the bottom of the pot…
Once all the vertical lines had been sketched, I started joining them together with angled (or diagonaled) horizontal lines…
Then once I had my first group of horizontal/diagonal lines sketched, I continued adding them, creating a herringbone design….
Once I was finished I painted the top ledge of the clay pots with a couple of coats of my elegant gold craft paint…
Done!
These visually appealing clay pots are great in the spring or summer…
Or during the winter months as well…
Did you get a peak at these when I shared my winter décor a couple of weeks ago?
They have a home on our neutral winter mantel right now…
Or perhaps you saw these when I originally shared them last Easter over at Tatertots and Jello?
And I am sharing them today on my blog for the first time, as part of the Get Your DIY On Challenge.
This coming Sunday we have our February Challenge. The theme is Neutral Décor Projects we Love.
Here is what my cohosts came up with this month:

I definitely agree that gold is a neutral! These pots are so cute, I love how they go so well with the neutral decor!
I love these! Gold is totally my favorite these days, and these would look so pretty with those bright flowers you were talking about! 🙂
Very cute!! All metals are definitely neutrals in my book : )
I love these, Krista…such a simple but pretty way to dress up a simple clay pot! XO
