DIY Natural Greenery Display with Lights
Create a beautiful wonderland entrance to your home with this natural greenery display!
Good morning! And welcome to the third day of my 12 days of Christmas Series! Each day for these 12 days I am sharing a Christmas craft, DIY, or decor project to help inspire your holiday season. I can’t wait to share this easy way to dress up your front entrance today with this eye catching DIY Natural Greenery Display with Lights.
And the best part? These lights are battery operated so it doesn’t even matter that I don’t have power on my front porch!
The Home Depot Challenged several bloggers to create something amazing using Martha Stewart LED battery operated lights and items from their store. I started out by visiting my local Home Depot to find my woodland inspiration and before I even got in the door I fell in love with the selection of natural greenery and accessories that they had in stock. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my shopping cart.
I selected bundles of cut boughs, a beautiful wreath, and even some cedar garland. I also found some birch logs, white tipped giant pinecones, and an extra set of the Martha Stewart LED battery powered lights (2016 UPDATE: I can’t find this particular brand, but these are very similar) . Perfect to decorate our whole front porch with!
** Note: These Martha Stewart LED battery operated lights are rated for Indoor Use only. But I chatted with the lady at Home Depot, and I decided they would be fine because they were going to be well under cover on our front porch – definitely away from the elements and water.
I started by gathering all my DIY supplies, including one of our garden pots, and laying it out on the front porch.
I placed the white birch logs towards the back of the pot and pressed them down into the soil.
I put my lights in and draped them over the birch logs to start with.
Then I started layering my boughs. I started with the grand fir boughs as they have the most strength and structure.
Next I added in the pine boughs and the giant pinecones.
And finished it off by adding in the cedar boughs wherever there was space and then added in the smaller pinecones to fill in the gaps.
Lastly, I wasn’t happy with the way the lights looks draped around the birch logs so I decided to massage them into place throughout the boughs instead.
Done!
Isn’t this such a fun and simple way to add some festivity to your front entrance? And you can tell that we don’t have a very big porch – so you don’t need to have very much space to make a beautiful holiday greenery display like this. I totally think that the lights make it look magical. I keep them off during the day, and then just switch them on in the evening.
I even had enough leftover boughs to make a miniature version for the other side of the porch…
I also added some of these pretty twinkling lights to the beautiful natural wreath that I picked up at the Home Depot…
Pretty, right?!? And that garland above the door?! From Home Depot as well!! I just love our front porch this year- makes me wish that we didn’t enter through our garage door so I could enjoy it even more as I enter the house!
So if you are crunched for time this holiday season like I was, head to your local Home Depot to see the awesome selection of holiday supplies they have this year- I was so thrilled to find all this natural greenery there! I normally try to go out and cut my own, but with our busy schedule this year I just knew I wasn’t going to find the time for that. Sometimes you have to know your limits, right?!
Well, if that’s not a Christmas-y project, then I’m not sure what is!!

I LOVE this lit greenery on your porch!! I added some lights to my front this past weekend and it’s looking pretty pathetic out there. Haha… seems so much more grand when it’s not lit… I think I need to make some of these to add at the door!
