Easy DIY “Christmas Tree” Ribbon Art {Blue Christmas Blog Hop}

I’m back today with the final installment of our Blue Christmas Blog Hop- this week’s topic is Blue Christmas trees but I did a little bit of a different take on it by creating some Easy DIY Christmas Tree Ribbon Art for our Dining room Gallery Wall…

A couple of weeks ago, my good friend (who now resides in Switzerland) texted me a picture of a Christmas canvas that she had just purchased… and I loved it so much I thought I would try to create my own version. Here is my inspiration…

To make this you need:

– poster board (or a canvas like in the original inspiration version)
– craft paint and brush
– ribbon, ric rac, burlap of your choice
– embellishment for the top of the tree (star etc… I chose this little wooden wreath from Michaels)
– paint pen (I used black but it would probably look fab in white as well)
– glue gun
– measuring tape

Start by painting the poster board in a color of your choice- I chose two colours of blue and dropped them all over the poster board in a random pattern:

Then I used my brush to spread the paint, mixing and overlapping the colors to create a varied effect…

Once finished I scratched the paint off in a few spots to leave some of the white background showing through…

I decided what order I wanted to place my ribbon in and cut it to size… the thick burlap ribbon forms the base of the tree, and the ribbon length shortens each step up to form a tree shape….

Once I had the design how I liked it, I glued the ribbon down in a few spots using my hot glue gun…

And added my wording using my paint pen. IMG_0830

(If you don’t feel comfortable free handing the lettering like I did, you could print out some lettering and use this pencil transfer paper method to trace the lettering onto your project.

 Done!

And while it is not actually a blue Christmas tree… it is a Christmas tree on a blue background… that counts, right? Plus- I love the way the mix of colors blends so well with the rest of the dining room gallery wall.
