Farmhouse Kitchen Open Shelving Choices
I am sharing with you some ideas on how to incorporate open shelving in a modern farmhouse kitchen!
Hello and welcome back for the second instalment in my modern farmhouse kitchen planning series!
I’m helping some friends give their new-t0-them home a modern farmhouse makeover {with colour!} and one of the main rooms that is being overhauled is the rustic kitchen. The other day I shared some awesome DIY modern farmhouse kitchens where they painted and kept the existing cabinetry, and today I’m focusing on how to incorporate open shelving in the modern farmhouse kitchen.
You probably know if you’ve ever toured my kitchen that I love open shelving and even just open wall space concept in the kitchen.
I prefer to work in the kitchen without cabinets hanging overhead and we designed our lovely kitchen around that preference. Because of this, and because I think that adding some sections of open shelving will add interest to their kitchen, we are planning to replace a couple of areas of upper cabinets with open shelving in this farmhouse kitchen makeover…
There are basically four different styles that we are considering: wood or white finish and with brackets or without…
Tell us what your favourite style is in the comments below!

Which style would you choose?
Where did you get the bamboo shade?
Do you know the color name of the green gray cabinets?
Thanks!
Hi, the white kitchen with the pastel subway tile belongs to Desiree Ashworth. She has since moved on to another house, and has redesigned it very similar to the above picture. Here is one post of her kitchen and house. http://houseofturquoise.com/2010/02/incredible-dream-home.html
Thank you Martha!
These are brilliant open shelving ideas. I have saved to my pinterest board for later use. Thanks for sharing.
I am wanting to do this in my own kitchen. Currently redecorating in the farmhouse style. We have white cabinets, painting the walls white, white subway tile backsplash and I’m definitely going with the warm wood shelves and black brackets. I did this in my bathroom and it cozies up all of the white in there. I love the more rustic look of the wood and it helps add texture and interest to the room.
Looking forward to seeing the choices that are made. Please include any local sources as we live on the other side of this wonderful island we both call home.
Hi Dawn!! Sounds like a great makeover! I love seeing the change!! And I totally agree, the wood warms it up when it can become far to sterile if it’s all white:) I’ve found nice metal brackets in the past at the Coombs Market:)
Oooh, never thought of looking up there. Thanks for the tip. A trip north may be in the near future lol
