Friday’s Faves

High five, it’s February!

Are you as excited that I am in that January is behind us for this year?! Can you tell it’s not exactly my favourite month?

The one thing I love about January is that feeling of a fresh start; the new energy that comes with the beginning of a new year and the focus on making positive and healthy changes in your life. But you know what I don’t love about January?

The weather…

It’s a hard call which month has the worst weather: November or January. But at least in November you’re getting excited about the holidays and you’re decorating and shopping and baking and there are twinkly lights all around.

January? Not so much.

The holidays are over. It’s cold. And it’s likely either very wet or very snowy. And did I mention it’s dark? Like, hours and hours of endless darkness.

But enough complaining! I’m super excited that January is behind us and that spring is on the horizon! Yes, I know… February does not equate to spring. But February is such a short month with Valentine’s Day right in the middle of it and then it’s March and it’ll be spring break and there will be flowers popping their sweet little heads out of the ground. I can’t wait!

But I can’t wait to see the sun shining through our kitchen windows again. If you are craving a little bright and cheery inspiration then you can check out last year’s spring kitchen tour here.

Maybe it’s all the Valentine’s Day decor and projects I’ve been seeing around the past week or so, but I’m craving me some pink. I’m itching to bring back some flowers and put away my winter frosted branches. It might just happen this weekend!

What do you think? Do you like to decorate with pops of pink? Or avoid it like the plague?

Did you see my friend April’s gorgeous dining room (with hits of pink for Valentine’s Day)?

She honestly had me dreaming about shopping for faux pink flowers and eucalyptus branches. And she also whipped up the sweetest little DIY succulent Valentines!

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, I love this idea for heart shaped french toast that Rachel shared over at Maison de Pax this week. My boys would be so thrilled to wake up to this for breakfast on V Day!

I mentioned in my Valentine’s post that my husband and I don’t really celebrate the holiday as a couple. It’s become more of a family holiday and the boys and I create little gifts for their classmates and my students. This year we came up with “fish” Valentine’s to go with little bags of Goldfish crackers (or Swedish fish candies). Hop over here to check out the details and download your own copies…

I was blown away this past week when I read the tutorial for the most beautiful DIY Pedestal Stands made from thrifted finds at In My Own Style . She made about four different, gorgeous styles and shared all the details in her tutorial…

In addition to adding a few pink and springy touches to our decor indoors, I’m also thinking that I’ll finally “deChristmasfy” the front porch this weekend and I need to come up with a new wreath. I had planned to do it a couple of weeks ago but we’ve had such bad weather that I couldn’t even drag my sorry carcass out in the rain to deal with it. We have the advantage of living at the end of a very quiet dead-end road so no one really sees the porch except the Fed Ex guy. I’m thinking he doesn’t care whether it’s full of sleds or tulips. As far as wreaths go, I’m ready to switch out our heavy evergreen one for something a little lighter and brighter (and maybe take down that cedar garland!). I love this sweet and simple modern spring wreath by my friend Alexis at Persia Lou, and I’m definitely thinking of incorporating some springy blooms and leaves into mine this year.

Though I may end up doing something quick and easy like my dollar store spring wreath from last year… I still love the crisp green and white. I’m going to head to my local dollarama this weekend to see what new floral branches I can search out…

I’ve also been working on some purging and organizing around here and am so thrilled with how fresh and organized our bedroom closet and dressers are feeling now!

I absolutely love thrifty organization solutions, and the on-trend makeover of these dollar store organizers by Katie at Little House of Four is ah-maze-ing!

And speaking of this weekend, it’s Superbowl! Have you made plans and figured out your snacks yet?

How about some roasted pineapple jalapeño chicken tenders? Light crockpot buffalo turkey meatballs? Or skinny zucchini mozzerella sticks? Um, yes please!
