Friday’s Faves

This hasn’t been my favourite week. I’m not sure what exactly is going on, but I’ve had a definite case of the grumpies. And to be totally honest, it’s fairly rare for me. Now that the weekend has arrived, I hope I can get some extra rest and exercise; that usually cures most things!

It could be because last weekend was a busy weekend away in Vancouver for a teaching conference. And as fun and full of learning as it was, it left me a little tired. The days were pretty jam-packed with seminars, but I did manage to squeeze in a tiny bit of shopping on the famous Robson Street. I even had a famous-person spotting! Of two famous people! Do you know Colin & Justin of HGTV fame? Well I walked out of a store and down the street right past them… just walking along like regular people. Which I guess they are, but it was still pretty exciting for me. Being from a small-town, that kind of thing is pretty rare!

While shopping on Robson I finally had a chance to pick up some new boots for the fall/winter and I’m so over-the-moon thrilled with them! I bought a pair of black Blundstone boots; they are so comfortable and work perfectly with tights and sweaters and scarves which I love to wear all fall and winter…

I also picked up a couple of super versatile scarves; one beautiful big black plaid one that looks just like the one below, and another in a gorgeous houndstooth pattern!

This week we’ll get Halloween over with which means that Christmas is closer on the horizon. I’m thrilled about  starting to work on some Christmas crafts and decorating in the next couple of weeks. I’m hoping to get it tackled in November this year so that I can really enjoy the month of December! Have you started shopping yet? I’ve started brainstorming some ideas for my boys and husband as they are sometime a bit hard to buy for. Who is the hardest person to buy for on your list?

This week online I found some beautiful and inspiring fall ideas; as well as a super cute idea for Halloween! I think my kid’s would be thrilled to bring these Halloween Spider Cupcakes Via Crazy Little Projects to share with their class!

But we have pretty strict school rules about sharing healthy foods, so I may end up sending these adorable carrot pumpkins Via Little Dairy on the Praire

Or these adorable and healthy snacks Via I Heart Nap Time

I also love the really pretty and unique Tattoo Pumpkin Craft Via The Heathered Nest.  Of course, the fact that it’s done in blue and white doesn’t hurt!

Last week I shared with you that I’m working on a few little tweaks to our entry way, and this project is ongoing. Did you see the post I shared this week about pretty & functional small entry ways?

I’m still looking for the perfect console table and rug! So far, I’ve narrowed it down to these two console tables. Which is your favourite?!?

I like the character and eclectic feel of this one drawer two door accent cabinet… (it comes in a few colours, is it shocking that I love the aqua?)

But I also love the vintage character of this French stye Bartouille 3 drawer chest. It’s definitely got a more formal feel…

And then the modern coastal styling of this 2 door accent cabinet

Which one would you choose??

I’m also looking at rug ideas! And I think I’ve settled on this one. It looks like all the variation in colour would hide dirt, and it would add some brightness and interest to our floor.

But I’m thinking the colour with a coloured cabinet might be just that little bit too much. This blue and beige one would work well with a white or cream cabinet.

Decisions, decisions!

Speaking of entry ways, how lovely is this sweet and simple fall entryway Via Little Vintage Nest…

And I know that while I’m ready to hop right into Christmas decor, my US friends have Thanksgiving to contend with. This week I loved Shannon’s post on fall dining room decor made easy Via Fox Hollow Cottage.  Her simple table centerpiece is brilliant and so inexpensive!

I wish we still had the warmth and sunshine to enjoy our meals outdoors; but if you live in a warmer climate then you’ll love this gorgeous outdoor tablescape using grocery store items Via Maison de Pax…

And why not serve a paleo-friendly sweet potato casserole while you’re at it? This delicious looking recipe was spotted over at Nesting with Grace…

I spotted this last one on Pinterest this week, and even though it’s an older project, it really caught my attention. I’m totally in love with this chalkboard wall in the dining room  Via Vintage Home Love; I wish I had a spot to do this in our house!

Did you see something you want to remember?

Well, I hope that you get a chance to rest and relax a little this weekend, friends! Wish me luck on making good decisions about our entry hall; I’d love to hear your opinion!

  1. Girl it must be in the air. Last week was rough.
Hopping to reset this weekend, even though it’ll be busy and full of projects & work.
I like both your rug options. I’ma terrible chooser 😉
And I’d do a wall like that in a minute. I still adore chalkboard paint! (even when it’s naked)
    Happy Autumn!! xo Shannon

    1. Hi Shannon! I’m definitely feeling a bit better this week… I hope you are as well, as well. I’m really thinking of at least one section of the hale navy – or a chalkboard. I can always paint over it again if I don’t like it, right? Happy Halloween!

  2. Krista, You have such a great style — beautiful yet relaxed and welcoming.
The Asian-inspired and the 3-drawer dresser seem more your style, though the dresser would look much better in an aqua shade, of course!! That heavy, unnatural green shade is depressing in that photo.

Lovely compact and efficient entryways you’ve found! Thanks for sharing.
And I hope that some rest replenishes your happy spirit/mood.

    1. Hi Ingrid! I agree – I think the green colour is too dark and heavy. I love the aqua, but may end up going with the same style in white since I want to do blue in the rug and there is so much colour in there. It’s amazing what seem people can do in a tiny space, isn’t it?
