Friday’s Faves

Good morning friends, and happy Friday! It’s been a busy week around here. We were thankful to have an extra day off on Monday in honour of the Remembrance Day holiday; so the week really whipped by. My sister and brother-in-law also moved out of their big home on Wednesday, and into a tiny cabin (on a property that they plan to build a new house on), so we were trying to help them out as much as we could. They are going from living in about 2800 square feet down to a less-than 400 square foot one bedroom cabin (with two kids!), so they had quite a job to tackle with downsizing, selling, and putting belongings into storage. They’ve got some amazing ideas and plans for their new-build home on the property though, so I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

Speaking of challenges and renovations, this week was the wrap-up of the One Room Challenge. I didn’t join in this challenge, mainly because we are already knee-deep in our exterior project as well as because of my husband’s achilles tear/injury. But I did see a couple of awesome reveals early this week on social media, and thought you’d love these! The reveal posts are so fun to read! The patterned cement style flooring is certainly the thing to do these days, as shown in both this bathroom and kitchen makeover:

And, of course, the focus around here has been Christmas! I was thrilled to get a ton of Christmas shopping tackled on Sunday and Monday of last weekend. It’s now a huge mess in my craft room and I want to get down to wrapping as soon as I can! We need something to go under our tree…

I also picked up some fun new ornaments at Michael’s this week for our huge tree! I finally am loving it – I added a ton of white and it has helped brighten it up so much. I can’t wait to share all the details with you, but I did share tiny sneak peak at it on Instagram the other day… (taken at night with my iPhone – not the best shot, but you get the idea!)

This year our decor is all about red and white! With some black, blue, grey, and a healthy dose of green mixed in, as well. I love this beautiful red, white, and black holiday Mantel Via Duke Manor Farm…

And the hint of plaid in this farmhouse style Christmas Tour Via Thrifty and Chic just pops against all the white!

I’ve got most of the entry hall, living room, and dining room decorated for Christmas already. There are a few things still to come, but I have to see that it’s feeling pretty cozy around here on these rainy, cold late fall evenings. I can’t wait to share some of our decor with you! This weekend I’ll be working on cozying up our bedroom for the holidays. Although I’ve used a lot of red throughout the house, I think I’ll stick with mainly blues and greens in our bedroom.

I love Lucy’s plaid Christmas bedroom at Craftberry Bush – the mix of classic red, with lots of blue and green to ground it, is perfect!

I’m looking for something blue and plaid!

Like this lovely navy buffalo check flannel sheet set…

I think I’ll also keep my current white duvet cover and new quilt, but top it off with a plaid throw in blues and greens.

Have you seen this gorgeous free printable art Via Next of Posies?  Doesn’t it just put a song right into your head?! I’m loving the watercolour trees!

And how sweet of an idea is this Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe Jar Gift with Free Printable Labels Via Home Stories A to Z?  Such a great gift idea for friends, neighbours, or co-workers!

With the holidays right around the corner, I’ve also been starting to think about setting our holiday table this year. I’m fairly certain we will be hosting Christmas dinner again this year for our extended family, so I’d like to be prepared with the decor side of things well in advance. I was inspired by this sweet and simple Christmas centrepiece via Yellow Bliss Road

It reminds me a little of my tablescape from a couple of years ago, but without all the aqua!

I love our minty-aqua plates, but we only have 8 of them; so we need something classic and simple for larger gatherings.

I love these white something classic yet pretty like this white dinnerware set

Or maybe this one with the slightly more fluted decorative detailing on the edges…

I’d love to ground it on a wood look charger…

And top it off with a decorative plaid salad plate…

Don’t forget the pretty DIY napkin rings napkins. I shared an easy tutorial on making your own  DIY double-sided napkins!

See something you want to remember?
