Friday’s Faves

Hello friends! Welcome to Friday’s Favourite Finds!

I’m super excited to be starting a new post series each Friday where I share some more of what is actually going on in our lives; some great finds from the week; and a few links to awesome makeovers, projects, or sales that I’ve spotted.

Tuesday after Labour Day was our first day back at school and I’ve switched from teaching Kindergarten to teaching Grade 4/5! Although I loved teaching my Kindies, the grade change worked best for the staff at our school and I was happy to try a new challenge after five years in K. I’ve also taught Grade 7 for five years in the past, so this change will be a nice middle ground. I have definitely found that the Teachers Pay Teachers website is my new best friend; I am so impressed with the talented blogging teachers out there and all that they share for such a reasonable fee on TPT!

My boys headed back to school and are now in Grades 5 and 2. I can’t believe how time is flying, but I’m lucky to have them at the same school with me and that makes life much more convenient. I also love that our after school activities don’t kick in until next week, so we can all adjust to the school schedule before throwing ourselves full throttle into activities as well. I think this weekend will involve a mini-purge to get us back on track for the fall season. If you are looking to get organized, don’t forget to check out my ten week organizing challenge here; or read my best tips for keeping your house tidy here.

With summer behind us, we are hoping to still have a chance to enjoy the outdoors during the fall. Because we had a fire ban all summer, we didn’t get to use our new fire pit area very much but are hoping to do so this month. I can’t wait to share the details and some pictures with you really soon… but until then, I’m love the inspiration for a fun outdoor s’mores bar by Stephanie Lynn!

Did you get out camping this summer?

I didn’t quite manage to. Hopefully next year!!

I dream of one day making over a dated old camping trailer. I’ve seen some awesome examples of this online this year; but I think Christina totally blew it out of the water with this fantastic makeover at  The DIY Mommy – you won’t believe this awesome trailer!  You’ve got to check out the before!

And since back to school started this week, I’m getting out of slow-summer mode and back into an organizational zone.

I’ve been using my Emily Ley Simplified Planner to keep me up to date and on-track as we adjust to the new routine {more on that below}, and of course I had to pick up some new office supplies!

I love these colourful  Staedtler Fineliners for keeping the areas of my to-do list colour-coded (geek alert!!)…

Now that fall is on the way, I’ve been working on transitioning our house over to “fall” with a few decor changes.  I shared my own fall mantel this week, but I have to give a huge shout out to the beautiful Coastal Fall Mantel that my friend Chelsea shared over at Making Home Base…

I know you guys are going to love this! Those ombre pumpkins… be still my heart!

Another beautiful space that stopped me in my tracks this week is this stunning Laundry Room Reveal Via Beneath My Heart.

I mean, COME. ON! I’ve been looking for vintage theatre chairs like that forever. And the sink?!! You will definitely want to check out the rest of the space – including the actual washer/dryer area! It’s just so hard to find awesome vintage pieces like these on the west coast; it’s so much “newer” out here! At least, in the area where we live…

I’m one of those people that can’t help popping over to check out the sales when I get the daily emails, and this week I spotted this beautiful overdyed rug by Mercury Row in Artemis Blue– wouldn’t that be perfect for fall in our entry hall!??

I have a feeling it wouldn’t show any staining or dirt; and it’s super affordable in the smaller size…

Speaking of rugs; I also saw that Joss and Main has a great sale on our living room rug; only $160 USD for the 9×12!!

I shared the details about our rug here; and although it’s not super thick, we find it to be very soft, comfortable, and absolutely love the colour of it in our living room! Joss and Main is calling it the “Conlin Blue Area Rug”, while it was called Ford Light Blue Area Rug when we ordered it from Wayfair. They sure love to switch up the names on the same rugs!

Fall means a bounty of harvest time for those who garden; and even the grocery store shelves are stocked with beautiful local produce finds.

I love all the fresh zucchini this time of year; and found and awesome recipe for Chocolate Zucchini Cake at A Pretty Life in the Suburbs  that my boys love! {PS – Jo-Anna also shared a gorgeous fall mantel this week right here!}

As I mentioned above, getting back into a routine means that I am relying on my simplified planner more then ever!

And Emily Ley launched her new Simplified Planner this week! I LOVE, no, I absolutely ADORE mine… you can check out all the details why here… I ordered the Fancy Floral design this year!

    1. Ha! I think part of the point of the planner is just writing it all down. Get’s it out of your head, and helps you focus on what is really right in front of you… and the less important things can wait!

  1. Chocolate Chip Zucchini Cake is so yummy, especially if you let it sit overnight. Have you ever tried Texas Sheet Cake…..? That is another yummy cake. My grands that live local (9. 7 & 5) request it every year for their birthdays and any other time that Nanny will make it. Both of our boys still love Texas Sheet Cake!! I have been making it for over 40 years and it was the cake I made for their 1st birthdays. It freezes well and I sometimes make it into cupcakes. Then the kids can take them in their school lunches. Sheet cake is easy peasy and if you need the recipe let me know.

    1. Hi Cathy! Sounds amazing – my boys would love it, I’m sure. I’ve heard of Texas Sheet cake but never tried it! I would love to try your recipe!

  2. What a fantastic post Krista! Can you believe everyone is back at school again?! Sounds like the grade change will be nice for you, and how lucky to be in the same school as your boys!

P.S. Thank you for including my cake…I’m so happy your family enjoyed it!
