Welcome to our home!
If you are coming by for the first time, welcome!! I am so glad you are here.
Come on in and see how things are looking these days… though I can promise you they won’t stay the same for very long around here!
I love summer decorating. We are blessed enough to live on a beautiful freshwater lake and our décor definitely reflects that.
So come on in and take the tour!!
I’ve got a fun twist planned for you today…. you get to choose the order you take your tour in!
So meander through our house at your own pace – we are thrilled to have you here.
Our front door leads directly into a small entry hall… this year I had added some hits of pink.
And yellow. Yellow is always wonderful in the summer. It makes me feel cheery just to look at it.
From the entry hall you can turn left and head down the hall to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry room or you can turn left and go into the living room.
Now it’s your choice!
Do you want to come in and see the living and dining room first?
Or head left down the long hallway and see the bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry room?
Hi Krista! I’ve been following your blog for a while and love Friday’s when it hits my inbox! Can you share the name of the paint you used on your entry table? I’ve browsed through your posts but haven’t seen the color/brand anywhere. Thanks so much! You are an inspiration!
Hi Katherine! Things have switched around a bit and we no longer have that table in our entry hall- but the colour of that table is Annie Sloan Florence! Hope that helps:) Thanks for your super kind words!!
Thank you Krista!
Super cute house. Love your style. Can I ask where you got your beautiful medallion shower curtain?
Wow! I love all the bright colors! You are proving to the world that all white isn’t the only way to decorate. LOVE it!
Hi Krista, i just found your blog and enjoyed touring your beautiful, cheerful home on Sproat Lake. Seeing your home made me homesick for the island again. I grew up on the island and had a home on Cowichan Lake for many years, but visited Sproat Lake a few time and loved it. I met and married a wonderful Michigan man and am settle in the Great Lakes State now, but the island holds a special place in my heart and whenever i find a blogger from the west coast of Canada, my yearnings return. I love your blog and look forward to seeing all your new posts. Thank you for sharing everything with us.
Erika
Hi Erica!
Cowichan Lake is really just down the road, in comparison to Michigan! I have always thought about what it would be like to live in other areas of Canada or the US – but I can imagine that there would always be a special place for the West Coast. One thing is that I am sure you get to enjoy a cold and snowy winter compared to our months of rain and snow that washes away within a day:-) I’m so glad you introduced yourself and shared your story with me Erika- I am thrilled to “meet” you!
Krista
Hi, Krista… Just found your blog. We love your house and style. We are getting ready to redo all our trim and are doing a simple craftsman style and we love yours. How tall is your trim? how about around your doors as well… i see that its wider above the door. How wide is the trim on the sides of the door and how wide is the trim above the door? and how much does it over hang? Lots of detail questions.. thanks!
Hi Tyler,
Our baseboards are 1×6″ MDF – (so they are really about 3/4″ by 5.5″ tall); the side trim on the window and door frames is 1″x4″ MDF (so it is really about 3/4″ by 3.5″ wide); and the upper cap is a FINISHED size of 1″ by 5.5″ (I am not sure what they would call that, but it is deeper then the baseboards). We overlapped it on the windows by about 3/4″ on each side – maybe a tiny bit more, but not a whole inch. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions:)
Krista
Love your house! I got quite excited when I read your sign that says Beautiful Sprout Lake, B.C and saw the water bomber in the background! ( I live in Port.) I am always reading blogs so it is nice to actually see one that is local.
Hi Lynne!! Wow- that is so cool. I haven’t really had anyone read the blog from town except for a few friends and family (I think). – So funny that you found me somehow!
Your house makes me 🙂 Love your joyful use of color. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Paula! Thanks so much for your super kind words!
WOW! Everything is just gorgeous! Your home is so bright and cheerful!!! I LOVE it!!!
Thank you so much Mallory!! So thrilled to have you come by! Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!!
It’s official, I am in love with your home! I do have one question though……where did you get your headboard/bed? I LOVE that the headboard matches your bedskirt!!! 🙂
Hi Mary!! Thank you for your sweet comments:) We actually made the headboard and the bedskirt to match. It was long before blogging days so I don’t have a tutorial- but there are many online tutorials for DIY Upholstered headboards. To make the bedskirt I just used no-sew HEM tape to create long pieces for the sides and end of the bed, and then smaller corner sections that sit behind the long pieces. I actually just used duct tape to attach the fabric strips to the bed frame. I should do a tutorial one day with better instructions -if you are confused and want more info or some pictures, send me an email and I will try to help so you can make your own!! It was an easy no-sew project that turned out really well (I think:). Thanks so much for your visit!!
I keep coming back to your home tour and am always inspired, even after seeing it again (and again…). The colors, patterns, everything. Plus, the view of the lake would be wonderful!!!
Aw, Megan – that is so sweet of you…. the view is probably the best thing about our house – hence my husband’s insistence that we don’t put curtains on those windows!! So far I am working within those parameters despite my love of color and pattern and fabric (lol).
Are there any directions on how you made the blue sign?
Hi Christie!! You just reminded me that I haven’t shared that on my blog yet – I used the same process as I did for my reclaimed wood sign for the entry hall. But I did share it as a project on Twelve O Eight (I contribute there). Here is the link to the blue reclaimed wood sign. Good luck with your project – thanks for your visit!!
I admire your beautiful home, brightly colors spill into every room shown… The breath taking view in the back is gorgeous. The front entry is just a preview to what’s to come, just as delightful as the rest of your home. Your awesome
Aw, thank you so much for your super kind comments!! Totally made my day:)
Awe, I’m glade I could make your day brighter! You totally deserve it!!!
First time seeing your blog! Absolutely love your home, and am envious of it being on a lake. I own a home on a lake but need to sell it, am hoping to decorate my next home so it feels like it’s on a lake. Love the wainscotting and plan on doing something similar soon. Thanks for providing so much detail!
Hello!! Yes…adding wainscoting or board and batten really gives that lake-beachy vibe…and lots of blue and green are helpful too I think:) Thank you so much for your visit and kind comments!!
Soooo glad I found your blog!!! Can you tell me the name of your kitchen wall paint? I think I missed where you said what it is…I’m looking for a color like that for our master!! Love it all!
Krista
I LOVE your home. It ‘feels’ very comfortable, it’s beautifully and tastefully decorated and the pops of turquoise are my envy!! I love your fabric choices for the pillows, BUT my main question is ‘ where did you find the big rug under your dining table’???? it looks handmade and I know that I need one……..
Thank you for letting me into your home, good job!!
Sincerely
Janice
Okay, I seriously LOVE your house and all the pops of color! AND mostly I adore it bc you use my favorite color, turquoise, through out a lot of your home!
Krista, I am no expert but I would say you have a great eye for color & a definite talent for painting and sign making. Also liked the painting in the bathroom up high on the blue wall. Did you make that? Also re: center pillow on the white sofa ( flowers & birds) I sewed kitchen curtains for my BFF out of that & and they sewed up well ( not every fabric does) and turned out great.
I loved everything in your house! Good job!
Krista Krista Krista! I am now adding you to my list of “I want my house to look like this when I grow up!” My husband and I have been married a year and are still living in rental houses, my DIY and creative tendencies are dying from not having full control over what I can do to the house. I LOVE every room and all of your beautifully put together collections
Your house is purely lovely. It just make me want to sit down and join you for tea. Well done!
Krista,
LOVE your home and your style! Can you tell me where you shop for fabric for all of your pillows?
Hello! Thank you so much for your kind comment! I usually buy fabric from either Fabric.com or tonicliving.com – both great sources for gorgeous prints. Thanks so much for your visit!!
Beautiful home! So fun and colorful!
Thank you so much Leah! I love your home tour as well!!
I love all of the pops of color throughout your house! I tend to keep things neutral but I’m going to have to get brave enough to inject some color into our decor…homes like yours are so inspiring!
Hi Samantha! I think that neutral interiors are beautiful too but I just love to decorate with what grabs me and feels right- and for me, colour is it! Thanks so much for your visit and kind comments!!
Hi Krista,
Let me tell you, that this is the first time that I’ve seen someone’s house and thought that we could be soul twins!!!! I LOVE the colors, I call my house the “Blue house” , I also love blues, yellows, greens, well exactly like you!!! Don’t you ever go “neutral” 😉
You go girl!!!
Everything is so lovely, Krista! I love the bright & happy feeling in every room! 🙂
You have such a beautiful home! I love all the happy colors, It makes me smile. I am sure it is hard to be grumpy in such a beautiful house like yours.
Hi Krista,
What a beautiful home you have! So fresh and fun. I am wanting very badly to add some board and batten to my long hallway…. I saw in an above comment the sizes you used… but I am wondering how it is attached to the wall…. glue? nails?
Thank you and enjoy your day!
Hi Jill!! Thank you… I do need to write a tutorial on our B&B… but yes, we did use both glue and nails to attach it to the wall. We used a nail gun and the glue we used was a construction adhesive called PL400. Hope that helps!
Love the bright colors. I have such a hard time defining my sense of style- I know I love bright colors and white wood. I also love clean lines, fresh flowers, but enjoy some industrial and metal also. I’m so happy I came across your blog, so that I can see how someone pulls all these bright accents together in a successful way!
Hopefully my house will someday be as beautiful! Takes me lots of time and patience!
Good gravy- I adore everything about your home! We are slowly working our way through our 1970’s ranch. We just replaced our yucky dark fake wood doors with new white doors and replaced all the knobs with black ones- such a huge difference! I was wondering about your trim measurements. Our next project is to put board and batten up in the living room and replace all the window trim. How thick and wide is the trim you used for your board and batten and your door trim? Thanks so much in advance for your help and for the gorgeous inspiration you have provided through your beautiful home and blog!
Thank you so much Erin! I plan to do a post/tutorial on our B&B but keeping forgetting to add that… sorry:) Our baseboards are 1×6 MDF, the board and batten strips are 1×3 MDF and the top trim board is a 1×5 board topped with a 1×2 that juts out as a little ledge. But of course MDF sizes are totally inaccurate and a 1×3 is actually about a 1/2″ by 2.5″… and the 1×6 is really 1/2″ by 5.5″ and the 1×5 is really 1/2″ by 4.5″ (if you know what I mean… the measurements aren’t true to their name). Good luck with your projects!!
Love your house! Such happy colors! This is totally the look I’m after, but have never quite been able to achieve! Think I’ll just copy everything I see on your blog! Ha!
Hi Stacie! Lol, they say imitation is the highest form of flattery so go right ahead! I copy lots of stuff I see all the time… or maybe we can just call is sharing ideas:) Thanks for your awesome kind comments!
Your home is so pretty and cheerful! Love all the color and styling!!
Your house is so fresh, pretty, and bright! I love all the color. What are the names of the blues and yellow paints you use? They are lovely! Great styling in your home too!
Hi Stacey!
The blue in the entry hall is called Colorado Gray. the front door is one up on the paint chip and is called Aegean Teal (same as the coffee table in the living room). The yellow paint on the side table and media cabinet in the living room is called Mellow Yellow. The blue in the boy’s bathroom is Glace Bay. The turquoise in the ensuite is Ash Blue. The yellow in the laundry room is called Buttermilk.
All these colours are Benjamin Moore. But the blue in our bedroom is by CIL and is called Blue Bow.
Thanks for your sweet comments!!
Hi there!
I just discovered your blog, what a treat! I LOVE your style of decorating and I love that you are Canadian! I will be checking out your blog daily. I hope it’s ok, I’m featuring your blog on my blog today as a “New find”.
Have a great day!
Hi Colette!
Ok?!?! That is thrilling! Thank you so much for the honour!! I will hop over and visit you too!
Krista
Love the chevron striped rug. I’m curious as to where you got it. I’m looking for something similar.
Hi Cindy! I picked it up at Home Sense (in Canada)…. if you live in the US I think it is comparable to Home Goods perhaps? I have seen some chevron rugs on Joss & Main though too…
Oh my goodness! Your house is fabulous! I love your use of color! I always seem to stick to my greens and blues! Thanks for your sweet comments! I’ll definitely be following along!
Hi Therena! So glad you came back to visit! I do use lots of colours but blues and greens are my favourite classic go-to as well!
I love your house! So fun and pretty! =)
Thank you so much Jen!! So glad you came by:)
I LOVE your house. It gives me the confidence to make a few more decisions about mine. Thanks!
Hi Lisa! Glad to inspire some confidence… sometimes it is just a matter of believing in yourself and then getting started! Good luck!!
You have won me over with all of the teal and yellow. I am especially jealous of your deck!! Would love for you to join in my design in your home link-up. I feature my favorites at the end of every month!!
http://designerinteal.blogspot.com/2013/05/design-in-your-home-may-features-and.html
XO Samantha
Hi Samantha! I am loving the yellow mixed in with the teal/turquoise/aqua too! Thanks so much for the invitation to your link-up! I will hop over for sure:)
Thank you so much for responding, Krista. You are right. That cherry red with green works wonderfully with the turquoise and blues. Seasonal hope fully restored! Thank you.
I found your blog through “House of Turquoise” blog. Very happy house. You are to be congratulated. Maybe this is a dumb question, but is this your year-round home? I’m wondering, because I love turquoise and all shades of blue, how do you decorate seasonally? Particularly Christmas.
Hi Lynne! Not a dumb question at all since it is a lake house… but yes, we live here all year. We have been here two years now and the look does change with the seasons… but the blues, and turquoise particularly, are always part of it. I have used turquoise at Christmas the last two years as well – mixed with red and green. It looks awesome together!! I am embarrased to even refer you to this post because it was one of my first posts and the pictures are terrible and cheesy but it gives you a little idea of Christmas with blue:)
Krista
Love the fixture in the dining room. Where did you get it? I love that it’s a larger school house style light.
Hi Shaina! I wish I could answer your question… but the light was there when we moved in. Didn’t they make a great choice?? I have seen similar ones on some online lighting shops though… have you tried lighting universe or shades of light? I think I may have even seen one at Home Depot?? Hope you can find one!
Love green chevron LR rug! Where did you get it?!
I picked that up at Homesense (Canadian store) but I think the equivalent in the US might be Homegoods?? I love it too!
Hello Krista! Your home is beautiful and I love your style, thanks for the tour. I saw the Mars on the lake in one of your photos, we are up in Port all the time (I’m in Victoria) especially in the Summer – what a fun place to hang out at!
Hi Heather!
It definitely is a fun place to hang out… starting to see more and more glimpses of summer around here daily – can’t wait for the really good weather to kick in!! So great to meet you:)
Krista
Your home is adorable!
Thank you Laurel! So thrilled you came by!
I love your decorating style!!! Wish you were here to help me. I’m in process of changing all the earth tones to aquas, blues and yellows and splashes of bold colors. I was going to get rid of my old coffee table (it’s similar to yours), but after seeing yours I want to keep it and paint it. Is it chalk paint? Color? And, from a family who loves to play on the water, love the paddles and ski!
Hi Vickie!! We love to play on the water as well!! It is more and more fun to do so every year as the boys get older. I made the exact same change when we moved into this house two years ago… from dark brown and red and gold and green over to lighter and brighter with aqua/turquoise/teal and yellow and green… with a little red thrown in for good measure!! I painted that table with a “metal and wood” oil based paint from Benjamin Moore and the color is Aegean Teal. That wasn’t even my original table – I bought it off of someone after seeing it on Kijiji (online classifieds) because I LOVED the shape! You should totally paint yours – paint and fabric, the best ways to change up your scheme without buying all new stuff!!
Krista
We just bought a lake house a month ago and I hope it is as happy as your mst amazing house someday! Do you list your paint colors anywhere on your blog? Love!
Krista, your house is beautiful, you’ve done so much hard work that really paid off I love all the moldings you’ve used throughout your home!
Thank you Dria! I am a big fan of paneling!!
Krista
Hi Krista- Love the room makeovers you’ve done. The after pictures are so bright and cheery. I am in the process of switching to aqua blues and reds in my house. Loving your blog!
Hi Kris!! Thanks for your sweet comments:) I moved from browns and golds and reds to red with turquoise and now am adding more yellow as well… loving the lighter and brighter feel:) Thanks so much for your visit and comments!!
Krista
You are amazingly talented! You nailed my dreams!
Hi Chris! That is so sweet… I am thrilled that you enjoyed the tour:) We have a ways to go yet!
