Great choice! Let’s head into the living and dining room area…
Our favourite feature of the living room is the high ceilings and the big peaked windows. They let in so much natural light all year long… even during the short grey days of the winter. I love natural light!
Aside from the couches, chairs, and rug, most pieces in our living room have been thrifted and upcycled. The gallery wall is full of thrifted finds with a few pieces from housie stores (like the letter As) and the large painting (which is by our brother-in-law…isn’t he talented?!!?).
In our spring house tour I made some beautiful springy pillows with a gorgeous print from Tonic Living- I shared my DIY Envelope pillow tutorial. I recently made some new ones for summer with this stunning fabric, also from Tonic Living. You may have noticed that I used the same fabric the other day for refreshing our Master Bedroom.
And nothing says summer like beautiful fresh flowers from the garden (or the side of the road…)
I tucked my little Pottery Barn Knock Off Succulent Arrangement in the corner on my DIY Chalk painted side table….
I wanted to keep the window quite open feeling so we didn’t put a sofa or love seat under it. Instead we used two white slipcovered chairs from Ikea. The bench between them is actually an old coffee table from the Salvation Army. We painted the base and upholstered the top and it made a great little faux window bench! The crates underneath are another little DIY project and they store books and puzzles of our boys.
The little ‘table’ beside the chair is actually an old cheese drum that I picked up at a garage sale…
And the TV cabinet is an old dresser that we painted and upcycled into a media cabinet. I painted the sign above the TV cabinet on some old reclaimed wood to fill up some of the huge blank space on that wall.
The living room flows right into the dining room….
Again, the gallery wall is full of thrifted finds. The wreath is a beautiful Balsam Hill faux boxwood wreath… I love how it looks against the ‘free’ shutter doors. Our pew is one of my favourite pieces – given to us by some dear friends. I couldn’t love it more.
I recently picked up the little gold frames on the wall at a garage sale and for summer I filled them with some maps of Europe. I have a dear friend who lives there so whenever I look at them it reminds me of her…
Some of the maps show the history of land ownership / countries in Europe. The history geek in me loves maps and it is so fascinating to look back at how the shape of the countries has changed over time.
In our dining room we also have a faux mantel that I made from an old hutch… I love switching out it’s décor for the seasons.
From the dining room we can head over to the kitchen…. Soon we are taking on a major renovation and I will have LOTS to share with you on that front!!
From the kitchen you can head out onto the deck….
Or down the hall to the bedrooms….
