Lakefront Summer Patio and Fire Pit Makeover Reveal (Before & After!)
Today I’m sharing our lakefront lower patio reveal and summer fire pit area, both of which have undergone a huge exterior makeover project, as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Series.
Oh, you guys! This post is a fun one today! My favourite kind of post; a before and after.
If you’ve been following along for a while, then you may remember when I shared our really ugly BEFORE pictures of the exterior of our house along with the plans for how we wanted to give it all a completely new look? Well that was waaaaaaaaayyyy back LAST spring (like, 2017), and things have come a long way! Some of it happened last spring/summer, some in the fall, and then some this year. But all in all we are very close to finally being finished up with our exterior makeover project, and today I’m super excited to share the before/after reveal of our lower patio and fire pit area.
Last spring when I shared our “before” tour of our yard/exterior/siding/deck etc. etc. it was looking like this… EEK! You can see all the “befores” here.
And here is how it is looking now that we have finally finished the exterior projects…
Another BEFORE shot…
And NOW…
An overall of the “BEFORE” of our house, from the lake side…mid-construction, last spring:
And NOW….
Last spring/summer we finished up the fire pit area and got most of the landscaping done, but we still hadn’t tackled our lower patio area. Finally, in September, we resurfaced the old, cracked concrete with a Rustoleum product and I shared the tutorial here.

And NOW…
This makes the perfect shady corner to relax in, since our upper deck is in full sun during the day.
And looking the other direction on our patio, BEFORE…
And NOW…
We added the cedar privacy screen recently and I shared the DIY tutorial here.
Our lawn was also an absolute wreck, BEFORE….
And now, after some simple steps to bring it back to life and consistent fertilizing (it is pretty full of clover, but the lawn is also much healthier and thicker then it was!). I shared the details about our lawn in this post.
And we even finished off the landscaping along the forested side of our yard. This is the BEFORE…
And you can just see past the fire pit area to the AFTER… river rock, soil, some shade plants, and it looks complete!
The garden bed at the side of the house (and the old white vinyl siding), BEFORE…
And NOW…
A big improvement, right?!
Details about what we did:
