Main Bathroom Makeover Progress {ORC Week 3}

Good morning! I’m super excited today to be sharing the progress that I made on our Main Bathroom Makeover this week.

If you’re a regular reader then you may know already that I am taking part in the One Room Challenge. It is a six-week challenge put on by Linda from Calling it Home in which bloggers try to makeover one room in their homes in a six week time period.

Well, it is more like a four week time period because the first week you share your plans, and then the last week you share your reveal. So, either way, it is a crazy-short period of time. But it’s fun and exciting and motivating at the same time!

First… the dirty jobs.

Okay, maybe not they aren’t that “dirty”, but the less-then-thrilling-totally-boring jobs.

Like removing the leftover silicone from when we took down the shower doors over four years ago.

I picked up a special tool at the hardware store but it is still a painful process to scrape all of this gunk off…

I also picked up some Hale Navy paint from my local Benjamin Moore retailer – I absolutely can’t wait to get this up on the walls. I planned to do it last weekend but then I decided to go shopping instead.

Yes, I said SHOPPING!!

Yay! The fun part!!

I found quite a few things that I may or may not use in the bathroom. Since I live about an hour drive from a town with some decent Home Decor stores, I will often buy anything that appeals or that I think might work in a space and then just return whatever doesn’t work once the project is completed. It’s not so easy to head back down to grab a piece that you wish you would have picked up on your first shopping trip, so it’s better to have more then you need and then pare down as you finish off your space.

So, last Saturday I escaped for a few hours for my bi-weekly Costco visit and got to take a meander through Home Sense (a Canadian version of Home Goods) along with a couple of other shops.

This print that I got last spring from Z Studios (a great little Easy shop that is no longer in business) was kind of my jumping off point for a colour scheme…

I love the navy and mint and coral combination.

I found two different shower curtains options that I might use…

The first option is this ombre large scale paisley type design – it basically graduates from a super dark teal green up to a very pale minty-aqua colour. Excuse the wrinkles – I couldn’t iron it since I’m not certain yet if it is “the one”.

The second shower curtain has a large medallion style pattern with lots of coral and aqua/pale blue and navy accents. This one really makes my heart skip a beat, but I will have to see it up in the room to determine whether it might be just a little bit too much colour and pattern for such a tiny space.

I found some gorgeous hand towels that work well with either shower curtain design.

And these coral towels at Costco. Um, yes. Costco. I LOVE THEM! I hope they don’t overwhelm the room once I get them in there, because I know they are crazy-vivid.

I also found a pretty little geometric rug for in front of the vanity.

And some art to tie it together.

I also have plans to DIY a LARGE scale art project (how large can I go in a 6×8 space, right?!?), as well as to DIY a few accessories. I’ll be sharing those projects in the coming weeks!

Find any inspiration? Love the colour scheme as much as I do??

This is awesome! Pin it to remember it!

Okay, truth be told, it may not seem like I actually made much progress this week.

I mean, really, I bought some paint and went shopping for accessories.

But in fact I finally feel like my PLAN and vision are coming together. I feel that the new bathroom is going to better reflect my current style and I can’t wait to put it all together!

    1. Oh, it looks fantastic Melissa – I can’t wait to share it! And now, I get to start doing the fun stuff and pulling it together…

  2. Omgosh, I absolutely love the second shower curtain. I think the big bold colors would well in a small space. I would try to make it work no matter what. I Love Love Love it. I wish is was in my bathroom.

  3. I was looking at all of the accessories that you bought to go with the print and paint and even though I ADORE the bright multi-colored shower curtain, I think that the towels AND the shower curtain might be too much in a small space. I would use the blue shower curtain with the towels and the wall art together. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

    1. I totally agree. I think I will have to try that curtain with white towels and the other curtain with the coral towels and see which I like better…

    1. It’s a great combo, isn’t it Judy? I realize that our whole house is morphing into it too – with the coral in the living room this fall and then our master bedroom. Funny how that works…
