Modern Boho Family Room Makeover Reveal {ORC Week 8}

Today I’m sharing the before and after makeover reveal of our family room; modern boho family room makeover reveal as part of the One Room Challenge Spring 2020.

It’s here! Reveal day!  The family room downstairs looks 180 from where we started this spring.  I can honestly hardly believe it is the same room that we started with.  I love how light, bright, airy and clean it feels and our boys love hanging out with their friends in this space now.  So, without further ado, let’s take a look at this huge before and after modern boho family room transformation!

If you aren’t familiar with the ORC, it’s a challenge where designers and bloggers attempt to give one space in their homes a complete makeover in a 6 week time period. This time, because of the complications involved with designing and renovating during COVID19, the ORC extended the timeline to 8 weeks instead of 6.

Which means, that over the past several weeks I’ve been sharing the process of making over our basement family room with you one step at a time.

Let’s go back to the beginning…

Here is what our basement looked like before we bought the house…

Once we moved in, we just put all of our boy’s stuff down there and it became an absolute dumping ground. I couldn’t even handle walking by it without cringing so I kept the door closed all the time.  Old carpet, a dark paint colour, a dated fireplace, a broken drop-ceiling, and mismatched furniture and toys and junk everywhere. It was not a pretty picture!

In order to get this space whipped into shape, we…

If you saw my original inspiration board, you may remember some of these…

And let’s get on to the reveal now, right?!

Remember this before?

And now…

And now…

Such an improvement, right? It now feels light, bright, open and is organized!

We got rid of a lot of the old toys that our boys were no longer using, and downsized it into the blue bins on the storage shelf.  Their giant basketball game now lives in the garage, and they chose to sell the air hockey table as they didn’t use it.

I kept the colour palette fairly neutral with warm brown and grey complimented by greens and blues.  The colour scheme was really pulled together by our new Laguna Area Rug by Mohawk Home as well as by our gallery wall artwork ordered from Opposite Wall.  (See this post for full details on the gallery wall links).

Speaking of the ART…

I have a discount code I’m offering for Opposite Wall right now: Just enter “Krista25” upon checkout and you have access to 25% off site wide!

For the rest of the decor, I actually just shopped the house! I had all the pillows, the throws, the fireplace decor, the plants, and the baskets and tray already.  So aside from all the construction, flooring, and painting, the only NEW things in this space are the rug, sofa, ottoman, TV cabinet, and art prints.
