Modern Boho Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover Before & Design Board

Today I’m sharing the before of our basement bathroom as well as the design board I created for this space featuring our new Golden Select Smokey Barrel Vinyl Plank flooring.

I love it when a plan comes together! This bathroom makeover ended up being another one of my favourites in our forest house.   I have to say that integrating most of the basement rooms with the new vinyl plank flooring was one of the best design changes we made in this home.  I can’t wait to share with you the after/reveal, but today I want to focus in on how this bathroom looked before and on my design board and plans for renovating this space.  I always love to start any room makeover with a design board, just so I can see how all the elements come together, and this room was no different…

I wasn’t sure we would ever get redoing this bathroom, though it had been a thorn in my side since we moved in.  Although a new corner shower unit had been installed in the relatively recent past by the previous owners, the vanity was most likely original and definitely a homemade job that over the years had had more than its fair share of use and abuse.

While we were renovating the main floor bathrooms (main bathroom and ensuite) we had to use this bathroom full time for a few months and it definitely was not my favourite space to be in. With the decrepit old vanity, poor lighting, mishmash of medicine cabinets, uneven and hard to clean ceramic tile flooring it all added up to a makeover waiting to happen.

To save costs, we considered painting the existing vanity, updating the counter and sink, and updating the lighting and mirror…. but by the time we calculated the costs it made sense just to start from scratch on the whole thing.  So today I’m sharing how this space looked before we decided to completely renovate it, along with the products that I chose to create a Modern Boho Farmhouse style feel in this basement bathroom makeover that was consistent with the rest of our home.

Here is how it looked before…

Although the mirror swung to give side views, there was no storage behind it.  You can see it had the same uneven ceramic tile flooring that was in the rest of the basement.  The vanity was built right in, wall to wall, and was 48″ wide.

We definitely wanted to replace it because, as you can see below, it was pretty old and grubby inside and out…

The additional mirrored medicine cabinet felt unnecessary to us as there was also an overjohn in the room, and it made the vanity area feel closed in and tight.

The corner over towards the new”er” shower unit was functional enough and just needed a couple decorative updates.

We also weren’t fans of how the countertop had been added to the little bump out area beside the toilet, and you could see the unfinished mdf edges of the laminate countertop on either side…

So, the plan was to:
