ORC Progress Week 1 & Media Console Makeover

I can’t believe that the first week of this One Room Challenge has already flown by.

It’s been a little hectic.

I managed to get a lot done on the “basement” project {details coming very soon!}. And then I got not-so-much-done on my One Room Challenge Living Room tweaks.

And now, I’m down in Salt Lake City for the SNAP bloggers conference and won’t be back until Sunday evening, so I’m not sure about how much I will be able to accomplish next week.

All I can do is try, though, right? I’m still pretty thrilled about my ORC plans. Did you see the details last week?

If you aren’t already familiar with what the One Room Challenge is, it’s a blogger challenge hosted twice a year by Linda from Calling it Home in which bloggers try to makeover a room in their home in just six short weeks!

And really, it’s four weeks, because the first week is where we share our plan and the last week is our reveal.

This week I got a start on the project and did some planning…

1

I ordered my bamboo blinds! I chose these cordless ones from Blindster, and I’m so excited about them and can’t wait to see them in place. I think they are going to make such a huge difference and make our room feel super fresh and beachy.

I chose them in this finish as I think it will work really well with our sisal rugs and all the baskets in our home.

I mean, look how pretty they are in this fabulous, cheery, white room (we do lack those wooden beams, and my drapes won’t be quite that bright, but the look is there…).

I also starting working on selecting some new art for our gallery wall from Minted. I love playing around with their pinboards and I have to admit that I have spent way more time then I should browsing all the art! I haven’t made my final decisions yet but I am leaning towards these pieces…. I love all the blues and greens with a few hits of pink and coral mixed in.

3I am still torn about drapery! I want to move my current navy and white quatrefoil drapes down to the basement as part of our basement makeover, but I am not sure whether to replace the living room drapes with the same ones I made for our dining room (which is the adjacent room), or whether to go with plain white. I’m thinking that if the walls are white, though, it will all be too much white for me. I like to mix in a little more colour and pattern then that.

Here are my dining room drapes again… what do you think?

Should I carry through with this pattern?

Finally, I got one project pretty much done!

I gave an old hutch-turned-media-stand that we had in the basement a refresh with some white chalk paint.

Now, I’m pretty nervous about this week. I don’t think I am going to manage to get anything more done before next Thursday since I am attending the SNAP conference in Salt Lake City from April 13-16th. Which means that including travels days I am gone for 5 days!

Progress may be pretty slim next week, unless I manage to get something done in the evenings after I return. But I’m still confident that things are on-track with this refresh/makeover project. I’m hopeful I will “get there”. The only thing up-in-the-air is whether I will have time to paint!

  1. Looks like a great plan! I’m do the window treatments in my kitchen next week. Tons and tons of time on pinterest lead me to a sheer roller shade and a faux roman blind valance in the same material as my living room curtains. Can’t wait to show it off! http://www.wearwagrepeat.com

  2. I love all of your inspiration!! Hopefully you will find the time to squeeze in a little more progress this next week (even if it is just shopping)! I know I’m starting to feel anxious about my lack of progress as of yet, so hopefully this week will be filled with progress for me!!!
    Good luck & safe travels!

  3. Hope you ordered those blinds lined! I learned the hard way that this kind of blind is totally see through at night with the lights on!
