Painted Wood Flowers with Button Centers

I will show you how to make these whimsical painted wood flowers with button centers!

Today I have two button-based crafty projects to share with you;  Painted Wood Flowers with Button Centers and a DIY Button Letter Canvas over at Twelve 0 Eight.  Both of these adorable crafts were created as part of a gallery wall for the little girl’s bedroom revamp I have been working on. Button wood flowers on the wall in purple, green and pink.

I found these fabulous big wooden flower cut-outs for 2 bucks a piece at my local dollarama a few months ago and I immediately snapped them up knowing they would find a crafty purpose at some point in my life…Cut out wooden flower pieces.

I gathered some craft supplies: giant wooden flowers, craft paint and brushes, glue gun and glue, and a bag o’buttons…

A bucket full of buttons and a hot glue gun on the counter.

First I painted each flower in one of the enchanting colours from the room design (purple, pink, and green).

The flower being painted a pink with streaks of white.

They felt a little strong and bold in the solid colour, so to tone the colour down I dry brushed some white streaks over top of the flowers using the same method as I used for the small wooden flowers on my burlap and pinwheel summer wreath.

Once the paint was dry, I chose a contrasting button colour to use for each flower and gathered a bunch of buttons.

Arranging the buttons on the flowers.

I laid them out in the center first, and then started gluing them down with my hot glue gun. I layered buttons on top of one another to add some depth and dimension and kept working at the button center until I was satisfied with the overall look.

Using the hot glue gun to glue the buttons in the centre of the flowers.

Done!

We used Velcro strips to hang these on the wall.

I love the fun eye catching colour and texture to the flowers… they are perfect for the little girl/big girl room gallery wall that I have planned.

    1. I actually found those giant flowers at my local Dollarama – which may not be of much help to you! Sorry! I have seen large wooden cut-outs at craft stores like Michaels, as well, and you may be able to order them online? Good luck with your daughter’s bedroom project!

    1. Aw, thanks Abby! You are so sweet, friend. I do love the cute craft projects that we get to make in Kindergarten – especially around the holidays!!

  2. Very pretty and graphic. They have a modern edge to them, yet are still “cottagey” and girly. Love the button centres – I’m a sucker for the vintage look.

    1. Thank you Petra! Those flowers really are quite the find. They would be cute as chalkboard flowers too- or covered with cork even. It was hard to decide just what to do with them!!
