Reflecting on our Kitchen Renovation and New Appliance Options

This past weekend we were so happy to have the chance to host a visit from families members that we haven’t seen for years.

My cousin, who I haven’t seen in at least twelve years, came to visit along with his new wife and baby boy, both of whom I have never met.

It was such an awesome weekend; we loved having the chance to get to know these new amazing members of our family.

And whenever you are hosting, it seems that the kitchen naturally becomes the central focus and gathering point for everything.

Even if you have a welcoming living or family room space, it seems that if there is room, everyone gathers in the kitchen.

Reflecting on our Kitchen Renovation Choices
We love our new kitchen.

It really has become the absolute center of our home. And the center of our family’s social life.

We host nearly every family event here now.

We love having a space that can accommodate our whole family and that we have so much fun being all together in.

I’m so glad that we put the money that we did into reworking the space in our kitchen.

We could have just resurfaced our old cabinets, added new countertops, hardware, and some new tile.

It could have still been a cute refreshed space without spending what we did.

But… It wouldn’t have become the gathering space it is now.

We couldn’t use it in the same way as we do.

And it wouldn’t have the view that we love so dearly.

We love the layout and wouldn’t change that.

But what would we change? Honestly? Not much.

We put a lot of thought and research into all our decisions.

Well, into most of them. I really didn’t put much thought or research into the appliances aside from looking for ones that were on sale.

And I recently I discovered a beautiful new appliance line that I wish had been around when we were choosing ours.

GE is now making a premium smudge-proof appliance line in a Slate finish that I think would have looked amazing against our white cabinetry and countertops.

They also would have complimented our grey floor tile beautifully.

And they have a French-door fridge in this line that has a built in Keurig Brewing System!

How convenient would that be?!?

On big holidays our family tends to do things potluck style, with each smaller family group contributing part of the meal.

As the hostess, I love this approach to holiday meals!

It means I don’t have to cook everything.

But it also means that we are usually in want of an extra ovens on these occasions.

This is definitely something I wish I had thought more about when choosing our appliances. Having an extra oven would have made life easier on any of our big “cooking occasions”.

I would love the double oven gas range option that is available in the new GE Slate line.

And this range even has a griddle for making big family breakfasts on!

And how many dirty dishes do you create at a big family dinner or when entertaining a large group of co-workers or friends?

A. Lot.

And I usually end up washing my wine glasses and more delicate dishes by hand just to make sure

I wish I had gone with a dishwasher with built in top control like the one offered by the GE Slate line. Top control means that all those delicate dishes will be taken care of, delicately.

In fact, I wish I had known that such a thing even exists…

Overall, we are so, so happy with out kitchen!

But my appliances were definitely not something I put much thought into.

I basically just picked some stainless ones that were on sale. I wish I had taken a bit more time to consider all the different finishes and options that are available now.

And if you are looking to replace your appliances or renovating your kitchen, then the GE Slate line is worth looking into.

The stone-inspired finish of these appliances really creates a warm and natural feel that is super versatile and would work so beautifully with all kinds of cabinetry styles.

From farmhouse to coastal, modern, to colourful, I think Slate is an elegant new option that I definitely would have liked to incorporate in our kitchen.
