Our Rustic Natural & Blue Lake Cottage Coastal Christmas Tree Decor

12 Days of Christmas Projects and Tours at thehappyhousie.com

Good morning! And welcome to DAY 12 of my Twelve Days of Christmas Series. Can you believe I have posted a Christmas project or idea for twelve straight days? I can hardly believe it, and I am tired. But I still have serious Christmas-on-the-brain so I just may be back with more projects before you know it.

But despite my exhaustion, today I am super thrilled to be sharing my Christmas Tree Decor Style as part of the My Home Style Christmas Tree Hop hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins. If you have “hopped” over from A Designer at Home, then Welcome!! {Start HERE if you are new to my blog or head HERE if you want to learn more about me!}. At the end of this post I have the links to the rest of the amazing ladies who are sharing the details on their Christmas trees this week, so there is a lot more to see when you are done here!

I would describe our Christmas tree style this year as Rustic Natural & Blue Lake Cottage/Coastal

I am a big fan of blue at Christmas.

Well, actually, I’m just a big fan of blue anytime of year.

I know it isn’t some people’s cup of tea… but I pretty much consider blue a neutral.

I mean, it is the colour of the sky, right? (Well, not around here, these days, that’s nothing but grey grey grey).

Anyhow, I think blue blends beautifully with whites and rustic and natural materials, as well as with other hits of Christmas colour – like the hits of red that I used in our living room this Christmas. {take the full Living & Dining Room tour here}

To create this tree I used our blue and white ornaments from seasons past, and mixed in some new more rustic ornaments that I made or purchased, in addition to finishing it off with some beautiful thick burlap ribbon that I picked up at Michaels.

  1. I luv it all – yes I too feel that blue and any in that range is a neutral! I luv your tree would you source it? where and name? I’m looking for a new year for next year and this is as close to what I want as I think I’m going to get. thanks!

  2. I really like the coastal feel of this tree! The hints of white mixed in with the blue are a nice contrast. The tree looks stunning in your living room!

  3. I absolutely love your Christmas tree, Krista! I see many of the same kind of ornaments on your tree as mine! Love your touch of blue as well!

  4. I love blue for every holiday and season as well {which I guess is ironic since my tree actually doesn’t have any blue}. Your tree is so pretty, and I love that it feels festive while still blending perfectly with your every day decor style!

    1. Thank you so much Angela- I agree that it does stick with the general theme around here:) I love your modern and bold tree design as well!

  5. Your tree is lovely, Krista! Perfectly rustic lake cottage and my favourite style. We have two large trees and a small tree decorated this year (plus some plain ones.) Our living room tree is my ‘fun’ tree with a rustic feel in red and black, white, silver and natural (felt moose, sweater trees and balls, frosted pinecones, glittery deer and stars, buffalo plaid, shiny small balls, and red wood bead and buffalo plaid garlands.) Our family room tree has all our special and collected ‘family’ ornaments. I used a small tree in the kitchen this year with vintage metal moulds, small ironstone pitchers, neutral ribbon, vintage white Christmas light bulbs, old biscuit cutters and placed it in a galvanized bucket.

    1. Your trees sound amazing Elizabeth! I am going to head over and visit and hope you have shared them. I would really love to add a second, more personal tree. Maybe today?! Now that my decorating and shopping is done, might as well as some more, right?! lol…

  6. Hi Krista, love your tree and your home by the lake. Its sunny and warm here in Barbados and my green and red plaid tree goes up this weekend. A very merry Christmas to you and yours!!!

    1. Thank you Amy! I would have loved to add some red as well but I seem to have purged all my red ornaments. Oops. Lol

    1. Thank you Sara- blue is so lovely and calming. I would love to add a bit more white and maybe a few hits of red as well… a tree is never quite done, right? The feather ornament was so easy to make!!

  7. Gorgeous Christmas Tree Krista!! I love all the rustic touches. You definitely described your tree perfectly. I can’t believe I’ve missed 11 days of your creativity. I will have to catch up on the first 11 days. Thanks so much for joining in on the My Home Style Blog Hop! Pinning and sharing.

  8. Such a pretty tree! I don’t think I would have considered blue before but it makes for a great look when combined with the more rustic elements!
