I have put together some inspiration for farmhouse style stainless steel sinks!

When planning our kitchen renovation there was one key decor element that I knew was an absolute must have.

A farmhouse style sink.

For a long time I had my heart set on the white farmhouse style sink from Ikea… it seemed like the most economical way to get the look I was after.

But as I began to research kitchens, looking at thousands of images of white shaker style kitchens, a new idea began to form.

And I started to consider selecting a stainless steel farmhouse style kitchen sink instead.

Take a look at these inspiring kitchens and see if they might lead you to consider a stainless steel farmhouse style kitchen sink instead of the classic white style…

So what do you think?

Would you consider doing a stainless steel farmhouse style kitchen sink?

Or do you prefer a classic white farmhouse style?

Or maybe you don’t like farmhouse sinks at all?!

Well, we decided the take the leap and go with a stainless model, party because I was a little nervous about my ability to keep a white sink in such pristine condition. I thought that a stainless steel sink might hold up a little better to the demands of our busy household, as well as give our kitchen a little bit more of a modern/industrial touch. So I selected this Vigo sink from build.com and never looked back…

  1. We are planning to put a single bowl stainless farmhouse style sink in our new house we are getting ready to build. I was wondering how yours has held up over time? I was most concerned about scratching inside and definitely on the front apron. Any feedback you can give would be greatly appreciated. If you could email me your advice and experience with yours that would be fabulous as I am really nervous about this decision for some reason. Thank you.

  2. The inspiration pictures are all very beautiful, but very much from the same cookie cutter. Stainless sink, white cabinets, granite counters. To me very vanilla, but very clean, I’m torn. Love the clean of white, but crave the color! I need more color! My wishes: Soapstone counter, apron sink with a raised decorative pattern, could be white or any other color, glass knobs, colored or white cabinets. Grew up with a plain farm sink, built in dish drainer to the side. Very strong and sturdy. Easy to clean, and care for. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up switching for a more modern sink too- these got me thinking!

    1. I love it Christine- next week I will be sharing some tips for choosing a sink to suit your cabinets (so you don’t have to do surgery on your cabinets like we did… It is pretty exciting to get a new kitchen after living with a dated or damaged one for a long time!

  3. Oh!! Beautiful!!! We installed a single bowl apron front stainless steel sink and it’s pretty much the BEST decision we made!!!!!

  4. very nice. I origionally wanted farm house style also…but adjusting the cabinet seemed like a daunting task since we weren’t going custom. As for the white you dodged a bullet, I had a white sink for years and stainless is a nice change and so much easier to deal with. I wonder how the stainless apron front will wear…I wear jeans all the time and I wonder if it would get scratched from wear and tear, maybe maybe not…I guess it depends on the height of the person washing the dishes…it’s looking lovely for sure.

    1. Hi Chris! Well, I will say it was a bit of a daunting task adjusting the cabinet for our sink… I will be sharing more about that particular surgery next week. We didn’t go custom either, but the cabinet surgery would have been minimized if I knew a few more things before ordering my sink. Now I know that what they say about kitchen renovations not going smoothly is true. I haven’t noticed any wear issues and it doesn’t seem to mark up too badly with water or fingerprints – but I wear longer shirts usually, or tights, so I don’t have metal rubbing up against it. That is something I never thought of!

  5. Ooh. I love the stainless sink. So much more modern. Great choice. I want one! Wait. Is that the view from your kitchen sink?

    1. I’m really pleased that I went with the modern design of it Carol – a nice transition between modern and cottage. We live on a lake, so a big feature of redoing the kitchen was to switch from one small window sandwiched between upper cabinets, to a wall full of windows. I love the view!

  6. I never thought of using a stainless farmhouse sink (always had my heart seat on white), but those inspiration pictures are gorgeous! Your kitchen is coming along beautifully and if I had your veiw, maybe, just maybe I wouldn’t mind doing dishes 🙂

    1. I always had my heart set on a white one as well Katie. It took me a while to come over to the “other side”. Part of what did it for me is the durability. Our house gets a lot of use in the summer (with the lake), and I while I figured I could be careful with a sink I couldn’t always guarantee that of other cooks in the kitchen. Also, I wanted to add a bit of a modern look to the kitchen because the long bank of clear, open paned windows is quite modern looking… so I thought the sink would be a nice transition between cottage and modern. Honestly, the view does help make dishes a little more bearable:)
