Summer Master Bedroom: A New Gallery Wall and Mixing Pattern on the Bed

I recently updated the master bedroom for summer and here is the pretty result!

I can’t wait today to show you some changes that have been happening in our master bedroom over the past few weeks – we have redone the gallery wall and added some new pretty summery bedding. I am pretty thrilled with the summery results!summer master bedroom gallery wall new bedding.

When we made our springy changes to the living room  and added the new DIY Chalk Painted Media Console we displaced some paintings that I love from there, so they migrated their way into our bedroom. I simply could not put them in a closet – I have far too much affection for them. You know how it is… once you displace one thing it has a snowball effect. We ended up completely changing around the layered gallery wall that you may have seen in our “old” master bedroom. We moved the mirror, added the new paintings with a stool below to balance the arrangement, and added some new pieces. Master bedroom for summer gallery wall over dresser bird cage on wall.

I love the 3D effect of the birdhouse attached to the wall and I think we have found the perfect spot for our new ombre DIY pallet sign that I recently made.

A gallery wall above the dresser in the bedroom.

One of my favourite touches on the new gallery wall is the little bird’s nest attached to the wall that is framed out with a vintage picture frame that I spray painted white – the frame used to belong to my grandma so it has a little sentimental touch to it as well.

Up close look at the gallery wall.

And of course bringing in some pretty fresh flowers from the yard makes things feel fresh and summery. Some of the flowers like the hydrangeas are from the garden and the pink sweet peas grow wild all over the ditches near out house.

Fresh flowers on the dresser.

On the other side of the room, we changed up the bedding for summer. I added a new duvet cover that I picked up at Target and I love the way the colours in the Ikat print work so well with out headboard and other accessories in the room.

Mixed pattern bedding in yellow and green with coordinated throw pillows on the bed.

The mix of patterns on our summer bed is my favourite: a stripe on the headboard with a large scale Ikat, a small print on the opposite side of the duvet cover, and a new geometric print on the pillows. The print I used for the large pillows can be found here. We like to use our white quilt coverlet in the summer and keep the quilt at the bottom of the bed for cool nights… we use only the thin coverlet in the hot weather.

There is a red nightstand beside the bed.

If you like the new geometric large pillows, check out my simple tutorial today over at The House of Hepworths. They were super easy and super fast and sewn from one piece of fabric! I am in love with this new pillow making method… you will be seeing more of it very soon!

Have you made any changes in your master bedroom for summer? Do you switch out your bedding come the summer months?

Thanks for reading! And remember my housie friends, HOME isn’t built in a day. Enjoy the journey!

    1. Hi Anne! The art that made its way into our bedroom is some of my favourite… I certainly couldn’t let it be completely displaced once we moved it from the living room -so I am glad it has found the perfect home on the new gallery wall. Those poppies never fail to make me feel cheery!

    1. Thank you so much Shawna! I try to keep my room tidy and the bed made everyday. The real issues definitely lurk in my attached closet. It is not looking so organized I must admit! So I can shut the door to that!!

    1. Hi Kelly! Lol…. some days it would be nice to have that luxury of a nap… my boys don’t nap anymore and sometimes I miss it!!

    1. The seagull print is a little trickier…it is actually a painting on wood. The artist only signed it LY and it looks almost as though it is numbered beside the signature. I think that it was purchased at a market somewhere… but we bought it from our neighbours when they moved so I can’t be sure where they got it. Wish I could be of more help on that one!

  9. I love the poppy art, too! I don’t suppose you have any more info on them – the artists name or anything that would help me track them down??? Love, love, love them!

    1. Hi Beth!
The artist’s name is Shirley Novak – the prints I own (they are a print on canvas) are called Meadow Suite I and II. I absolutely love them… couldn’t bear to not use them somewhere in our house. You can find them on allposters.com I think… maybe art.com as well. I picked mine up at an art store… but they also come as prints that you could frame.

  10. Love the pop of color!! Thanks for linking up at the Pinterest Power Party – hope you’ll come back next week! =) Have a terrific Thursday!

  11. Ooh so pretty! You are a pro at mixing patterns–they look gorgeous together! And you need to come to my house and teach me how to put together a gallery wall. Every time I try I end up with 90 degree angles and straight lines. I love how your has a more collected feel! Hope you’re having a wonderful week, Krista!

    1. Hi Abby! A gallery wall can look great so many different ways, I bet yours look fab with straight lines too! I am certainly enjoying the summer weather this week, hope your week is great as well. Thanks so much for your super kind comments Abby!

  12. Love your duvet cover! so pretty and bright! Me want it, I can’t believe Target has not opened their doors here in Montreal, it was supposed to be in March, then April, now it’s July and nothing yet! 🙂
Love that you have flowers in your room and that you have something from your grandma there; very nice Krista! I love everything about your bedroom so bright and beautiful but relaxing too! 🙂
I switched furniture around our room Sunday night and of our living room last night ha!ha! 🙂 wish you a beautiful week Krista! 🙂

    1. Hi Ingrid!
That is a long time to wait… I hope Target opens soon for you- it was really fun to look around at all the neat things. But you must have a ton of other good shopping in Montreal. I love switching around furniture! Hope you have a beautiful week as well:)

  13. Oh Krista your room is so lovely! The poppies and gull picture bring me back to summers at my grandparents lake house. Just beautiful!

    1. Hi Kerry!
Perfect…that is the feel I always go for… I remember summers as my grandparents lake house too and love to try to create that feeling in our home for summer:) Thanks for your kind comments!

  14. I have eyed that duvet cover several times and left it in the store thinking it was too bossy and bright. You have done a marvelous job of making it look like it belongs! What a fabulous bedroom.

    1. Hi Alana!
It is quite a strong print and colour for sure… When I saw it I thought it might just be perfect with the greens we already had in our room, and I was thrilled to bring in some fresh yellow for summer. Thanks for your super kind comments!!

  15. Looks wonderful, Krista! I adore those poppy paintings. Such pretty flowers in such a lovely mix of colours. The nest in a frame is the sweetest thing, too. Summer is the perfect time for those citrus-y colours you have chosen. Very pretty!

    1. Hi Bronwyn!
Those poppy paintings were a snap art purchase years ago – one of the first time I brought actual prints… they just spoke right to my heart which is what art should do I guess:) I never would have thought to go citrusy but when I saw that duvet cover I knew it was right!

    1. Hi Sherry!
I wish that I could report something exciting but I must admit that they are faux forsythia branches from my local Dollorama. I just love the colour so much that I keep them out for much of the year!

    1. LOL April! I wonder how many gallery walls is too many… I think I am onto about number six now and am working on one for my son’s room. Hmmmm….

    1. Hi Cheryl!
I was thrilled to find that duvet cover because it had just the right green tones to go with our headboard and our chevron rug. Sometimes colour is a matter of some good luck!!

  16. Krista, your wall looks fantastic and the whole room is fresh, bright and full of summer sunshine. Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing, pinning and hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!

  17. Well, what got me was your comment about the sweet peas. Wild. In ditches. Free! We pay a fortune where I live to buy sweet peas, IF you can find them. Anyway, really love your 3-D gallery on the wall – it looks really pretty and I can imagine waking up to it would put you in a happy mood!

    1. Hi Petra!
I know…. crazy! They grow like a weed (I guess they are a wild version of sweet peas..so they are kind of a weed). The birdcage sat on the dresser for a long time but I really prefer it up on the wall now!

  18. LOVE these colors together! I think the large ikat with the small scale print on the reverse of the duvet is just perfect! So summery and fresh. Oh and the gallery wall looks great too! Nicely done.

  19. I love all your happy summery colors, Krista! Especially the pretty citrus hues on your bedding. (I’m going to have to make some pillow coverings for myself. You made it look so easy on Allison’s blog.)

    1. I love the citrus colors for summer too… didn’t know that I would so much! It is sooo easy – I have another similar tutorial coming soon for some pillow covers I made my for my son’s bedroom revamp.
