Summer… September… & Renovation Realities

September.

Where did the summer go?

I’ve been pretty absent lately.

The major reno took up a good portion of our summer.

And we lived through it. In it. Surrounded by the chaos.

I’m not going to lie. Or even fudge the truth. It wasn’t my favourite summer.

But. We survived. We learned.

There were some great adventures.

Living on dirty old plywood floors for weeks on end.

I can’t wait to show you how I LEARNED to install this gorgeous laminate flooring from Home Depot myself (I let the hubs help a little).

I even used the mitre saw.

Then there was the adventure of showering in an old homemade PLYWOOD shower (that’s a whole other story…) and brushing our teeth in the kitchen sink until the new bathroom was ready.

There was the adventure of living with old & dirty & half-torn-apart in the kitchen while we tackled painting out the whole thing.

And doing all food prep on a 10×14 cutting board until we found the time to replace the old counters and sink.

I also learned a whole lot about what NOT to do when tiling.

Nothing like completely screwing up a DIY to teach you how to actually do the DIY.

There are still plenty of finishing touches left to do; and as you can see I have a lot to share with y’all.

I just couldn’t find the energy after finishing our renovating days at 9pm to start writing posts.

So I’ll be sharing some more with you this September. Including the reveal.

In fact, I can’t wait to see the reveal, myself.

Oh, and don’t worry. It wasn’t all work.

We had an entertainment crew helping us out…

And we did squeeze in some holiday time and fun with our boys…

Oh, and they love to help me shop for our renovation materials…

    1. I’m looking forward to the reveal as well Elizabeth! It will be nice to have this project “finished”! I head back to school/work next week as well – it has been raining around here the last few days so it is definitely making me feel ready for fall:)

    1. Thanks Judy! Sorry to hear that your summer wasn’t great either – I hope that means we are both in for a great Fall:) I look forward to finishing up those last little touches so we can do the reveal:)

    1. Thank you – I can’t wait to get onto some fall posts now! I need a break from big DIY/renos – I’m ready for some “pretty” stuff!

    1. Thanks Diane! The laminate did turn out really well – it has sure improved in quality over the past few years. It looks so much like hardwood – it has a hand scraped feel and everything. And it was very economical – which is a great fit for an investment property:)
