Friday’s Finds: Swing Arm Floor Lamps and our Winter Living Room

Finding a new spot for my swing arm floor lamp and all our winter living room style!

Does this ever happen to you?

You move one piece of furniture or decor to a new spot…and it turns into another.

Then another. And another.

And suddenly it’s like a game of musical chairs/furniture-decor-items?

Winter Living Room Decor

Well, after Christmas I decided to move the lamps from the top of our living room bookcases over to the dining room side table. It just felt like too much was going on over on that wall with the new focal point of the fireplace.

Which meant that there was no lighting on that side of the living room, so I moved the tall floor lamp from beside the neutral sofa to beside a fireplace chair. Which meant….

Well, you get the point.

Sometimes one little change or tweak in your decor opens your eyes to bigger changes.

Switching up the art above our sofa for the winter opened my eyes the fact that I really wanted some matching floor lamps for either side of it.

I’ve been looking for months now for floor lamps that I like. Not a serious hunt; but just keeping my eyes open in case the right ones should come up. I had never really considered swing arm lamps before… but I kept seeing them pop up online and in design magazines and when I saw these; I thought they had just the right feel for our living room space.

Plus, they were super affordable! Always a bonus.

When the Christmas decor came down, I kept up a few pieces… I shared our winter mantel with you a couple of weeks ago.

Cozy neutral and blue winter living room decor.

As for the rest of the space;  I kept it pretty simple.

Fur throws and soft pillows; lots of wicker tones mixed with winter whites; and a hit of strong blue and green to add some energy and life.

Because on those grey grey January days, I love a little bit of colour in my life.

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that this painting snuck into our winter decor this year. I brought it up from a wall in the basement (nothing like shopping the house)!. It’s actually painted by our talented brother-in-law.

A bright blue painting is above the neutral couch on the wall.

The burlap shades ties in perfectly with our bamboo blinds and our jute rug as well as with all the baskets in our living room, not to mention the colour of our wood floors.

Small pouf's in neutral and grey in the living room.

See… there are those lamps from our bookshelves. I really love them in their new home.

There is a ski on the wall beside the neutral couch.

And my old classic floor lamp… it’s a perfect soft light for doing some reading in that chair…

There is a small wooden bench with a faux fur throw on it in the dining room.

Cozy, right beside the fireplace.

Have you been on the hunt for lamps? I find the “right” ones so hard to find! And not only do I love the shape and design of these swing arm floor lamps, but they were super affordable.

    1. Hi Jen, I couldn’t find the exact ones of mine online, as I purchased them at Walmart (right?!!). Maybe take a look there to see if they carry them still? Good luck on your search!

    1. Thanks Jo-Anne! I’m really happy with them – nice to have some extra, cozy light during all these long dark evenings as well (winter!).
