Tackling My Winter Skin Issues with Shoppers Drug Mart

Here are some products that saved my skin from the harsh winter.

My skin has issues.

Especially in the winter.

The different zones on my face act like different countries, each with their own individual climate, culture, and language. My nose and between my eyebrows can get a bit oily, while my cheeks and neck get really dry and sometimes even feel tight.

I’m getting old enough now that I’m starting to think about things like laugh lines and wrinkles. It still seems like just yesterday that those concerns were a million years off.

It happens quickly; this aging thing. And I’m beginning to worry that if I don’t start to take better care of my skin that it will soon reveal my true age.

Dry Skin

At times my hands already look like those of a 98 year old lady. In the winter they get so dried out from the cold weather and frequent washing (attempting to combat all those Kindergarten germs in my classroom), that my fingers even crack and split sometimes. It can be painful; not to mention rather unattractive.

So when I had the opportunity to collaborate with Shoppers Drug Mart to learn how to best treat my winter skin, I jumped at the chance. I was pumped to hear they offer complimentary skin consultations; I may know what I am doing when picking paint colours and fabrics but I am at a complete loss when it comes to how to treat my skin.

Did you know that Shoppers Drug Mart has a handy dandy little tool called beautyRx through which their trained and knowledgeable Beauty Experts can fully assess your skin type in order to help you choose the products that will actually work best with your skin’s needs.

Seriously. The beautyRx tool checks your moisture level through the Moisture Checker and has a super cool Video Microscope that magnifies your skins surface by 30 times. The Beauty Expert who helped me showed that my skin is quite dehydrated; and the Video Microscope revealed areas of broken capillaries (so I need to start being more gentle on my skin so that I don’t develop further rosacea). After the analysis she went through the different types of skin products that Shoppers Drug Mart offers which would be best suited to my skin type and needs.

This whole process was a huge improvement on my usual “grab the cheapest face wash off the shelf and then scrub away until my skin feels “squeaky clean” routine”. I found out that I was totally drying my skin out and damaging it by doing that.

I ended up getting a whole new system of Biotherm products in order to tackle my winter skin issues; this Biotherm Aquasource Cocoon is one of those products. I can’t wait to see it work on my crazy combination sensitive skin.

I also picked up some Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion (fragrance free!) to help treat the extreme winter dryness I get on my hands and legs. This will be perfect for my husband and boys to use as well; they often get dry and itchy patches on their arms and legs during the cold winter months.

It has been a long time since I actually tried to find skin care products that would best suit my skin’s needs. For some reason as life has gotten busier with children and jobs and hobbies and projects I have let my skin care take a back seat.

I’m honestly thrilled that I took the time to visit my local Shoppers Drug Mart and have an assessment to get me back on track with my skin care routine. I can’t wait to see how much younger and smoother and healthier it looks and feels after a few weeks of following my new regime.

Head to your local Shoppers Drug Mart for a free skin care consultation, check out their wide assortment of skin care products and earn Shoppers Optimum Points on your purchase! I was even able to save $10 on my purchase by cashing in some of the Optimum Points that I have been collecting. You can also keep up with Shoppers Drug Mart on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. I really do need to try Aveeno… someone else recommended it and like you, my hands look 90years old in the winter 😉 I’ll have to pick some up next time! Thanks for the recommendations, Krista!
