Thrifted Gentleman Spy DIY Halloween Costume
If you are looking for a cool and unique Halloween outfit, come see this thrifted gentleman spy costume!
Do you love Halloween?
I have mixed feelings about dressing up myself, but my boys LOVE to dress up for Halloween.
They don’t wait for Halloween- costumes and dress-up and make believe are a regular activity around here. Half the toys in the playroom involve imaginary play of some kind…and the costumes and costume accessories are usually their favourites.
With every fun costume play session we usually rotate between being a superhero and a spy – and what better costume for Halloween than one they love to dress up in all the time?
This DIY Gentlemen Spy Costume was put together with a second-hand children’s suit and some “spy gear” that many little boys and girls likely own already.
And today, myself and 80+ blog buddies got together to bring you 80+ DIY Halloween costumes, including my son’s Thrifted Gentleman Spy DIY Halloween Costume. I have teamed up with Jamie Dorobek and her handmade Halloween costume site, Really Awesome Costumes to bring y’all tons of easy ideas to craft up DIY Halloween costumes for everyone including your pets, family costumes, and even a trunk or treat idea!
Along with my Thrifted Gentleman Spy DIY Halloween Costume, I’m sharing 88+ more really awesome handmade costume ideas from talented bloggers everywhere!
To put together my son’s Thrifted Gentlemen Spy DIY Halloween Costume I used a second hand children’s suit and tie (check your local thrift stores)… as well as a bowler hat from the local Dollarama. He owned the SPY GEAR briefcase already (a scholastic book fair item that he got for his birthday last year), but you could easily find an old black briefcase at many thrift stores or garage sales as well. Or perhaps you or the grandparents have one lying around the basement somewhere.
Of course he had to pick all of his critical spy gear to pack into the briefcase…the usual spy scopes, binoculars, spy phone, and glasses that allow you to see behind you. Pretty cool stuff, really.
What a fun and easy costume to pull together- and of course because it was all pretty much second hand or put together from our playroom- it cost next to nothing. And he loves it, which is really what counts. He really tries to get into character.
Future 007 perhaps?
I think he will charm the ladies one day…

Oh man Krista, your little guy is just too cute! He plays the part so well. Love this idea of an easy costume and getting it at a thrift store is even better!
Such a wonderfully creative (and easy) costume! Stopping by from the hop (#14 mermaid). Pinned this to share!
He looks adorable and a bit like he is up to something. It’s a hit Krista and he’s lucky to have you as a Mom.
