Simple DIY Summer Centrepiece with Garden Flowers
Today I’m sharing an easy way to make a beautiful and simple summer centrepiece using beautiful flowers and greenery found in your backyard garden or even with wildflowers and ferns.
Summer is so fleeting. I mean, this year I feel like I blinked and it’s already the end of July.
Do you feel the same craving as I do, as the summer wears on? An aching desire to leach every last possible moment of enjoyment from every day before the nights become cool and the leaves begin to change.
Which means that summer is definitely not the time for busy and fussy home decorating. Come fall, I’m happy to bunker down and settle in and nest-myself-crazy. But for summer, let’s keep things simple. And what could be more simple than a beautiful table centrepiece made from fresh clippings from your yard and garden. Or, perhaps if you don’t have your own flower garden ready to clip, then a simple arrangement of summer blooms gathered from a farmer’s market or flower nursery.
I generally rely on the same simple process to pull together a simple summer centrepiece floral arrangement. I begin by gathering flowers… our old house had many available for clipping for I often rely on my Mom’s beautiful floral garden for summer blooms. I select a vase to use – I like one with a slightly smaller opening at the top as it allows for easier placement and direction as you arrange your flowers. If you have a larger mouthed vase, then consider using floral foam to keep your blossoms in place.
I recently purchased a sweet little white vase with a lovely rounded shape and clipped a variety of simple summer blooms from my parents huge floral garden. I also clipped a variety of fern leaves from the forest area in our backyard.
I filled my vase with water and began by placing my foundational flowers, the deep blue hydrangeas, spaced evenly around the vase.
I then stuffed the (amazingly scented) white flocks blooms to fill in the majority of the space, and then dotted in the two branches of fiery rose blossoms. I added green ferns around the base, curving them down by hand to lean towards the base of the vase as well as allowing a couple fern fronds to stretch up wildly towards the sky.
For a centrepiece on a summer tablescape, you can also consider adding some of your greenery (in my case, fern fronds) spaced out on the table for extra interest…
Honestly, don’t overthink it! The beauty of the garden flowers speak for themselves…
Done!
