These chairs started out like this. Perfectly lovely as indoor dining seating, but why not use them outside instead?? To turn these chairs into ‘outdoor’ seats I used some Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Spray Paint in a Beachy blue color, as well as some outdoor fabric (that I already owned from a couple of years back). We also used a screw driver, drill, and staple gun with staples.
I started by removing the upholstered seats of the chairs.
Next, I sanded the chairs lightly as they were clean but glossy and then gave them a few good coats of my blue spray paint.
If you get drips or runs, just let it dry, sand it off lightly until smooth, and then recoat a couple of times until it is covered.
As the chairs were drying, the hubs helped me upholster the seats. I had picked up some new quilting batt at Walmart to add a little extra padding to the seats.
I didn’t bother removing the old fabric. I just added the batting over top, and then measured and cut my outdoor fabric large enough so that it would overlap the edges of the seats. The hubs helped out by running the staple gun while I pulled the fabric tight and smooth. We stared in the center of each length/width, and then worked our way out to the corners.
Here is how we did the corners…. nothing fancy. We aren’t pros but it did the trick.
That’s how they look from the side, a slight fold. Not bad, me thinks.
Seat upholstery- check!
Next it was time to reattach the seats to the dry chairs. Be gentle with your spray painted chairs until they have had quite a few days to cure. Hubs did this part because I would probably be too rough and scratch off all my new paint job. I tend to thrash ahead sometimes.
And here they be! Beauties, eh?
I love them as deck chairs- and they are super comfy!! We could leave them out in the rain, because the fabric is really water resistant…but I usually tuck them under the overhang on our deck when rain clouds rear their head.

Pin it to remember it!
Oh, and see the brown wicker chairs on the ends of the tables?
Those started out like this:
A little espresso brown flat spray paint and they are good as new.
I chose the dark brown for the end chairs in order to tie the dining area to the dark brown wood of the seating area.
Do you remember it from when I shared our deck reveal the other day??
