Tweaking the Living Room {the One Room Challenge Begins}

I have decided to do a living room makeover or perform a little tweak to the room! Come see all the details.

When do you get the most accomplished in your life?

When you have lots of time?

Or when life it so busy it feels like you don’t have a single extra second?

Strangely enough, it seems like I always accomplish more when I am busy.

Which, I guess, is a good thing because I’ve decided to tackle a little room tweaking makeover over the next six weeks while, at the same time, doing a big makeover on our basement.

Hmm.

Let’s not question my sanity at this point.

Let’s just focus on how pretty the living room is going to be once it’s “tweaked”!

Have you heard of the One Room Challenge before? It is a fun blogger challenge hosted twice a year by Linda from Calling it Home…. Bloggers try to makeover a room in their home over six short weeks!

And really, it’s four weeks, because the first week is where we share our plan and the last week is our reveal.

Maybe you followed along last fall as I did a makeover on our main bathroom?

Or two rounds back when I made over my craft room for the ORC…

As I said, for this round of the One Room Challenge I am going to focus on our living room!!

It’s not in dire straights.

It’s just not…. quite… where I want it to be.

A little too much going on.

Especially this TV wall which could use some editing…

You can see more of our most recent living room in our spring home tour here.

To tweak the living room, I want to:

1

Get new blinds!

Our blinds are BROKEN! And can you believe that we didn’t even realize that until we tried to put them down one day (we don’t really have neighbours so we leave them up ALL the time). And, not only are they broken, but I have been drooling over rooms with bamboo roman blinds for months now. Like this beautiful one…

I am loving this colour for the blinds… these are called Aruba Camel (from blindster.com)

We have ordered a new couch!! I am so excited about this neutral couch from Wayfair – the Josephine tufted sofa. I ordered it in a light grey-beige linen fabric. Isn’t it stunning?!?!

Now if you have been reading for a while, then you might know that we actually just got a new sectional – the Ikea Ektorp sectional, last summer. BUT!! We are also redoing the basement right now and have decided that we really want a sectional downstairs – so rather then order ANOTHER sectional, we have decided to go with a new sofa for the main floor living room instead.

3

The bookcases! I am going to finally make a decision about these. You may have seen them during the original “refresh” of our living room this past winter. Since then, we have moved them. I have to decide to either STAIN or PAINT them – and then we are also switching around our media cabinet. It’s a serious case of musical furniture around here with the basement project going on at the same time…

Switch up the gallery wall!!

I’m a huge fan of the gallery wall above our seating area – and with the switch-aroo of the sofa that’s happening – I think that the time is perfect for a few changes to our gallery wall. And I can’t quite get over how much I am IN. LOVE. with Minted these days. It’s like an addiction. I keep adding more and more of the images to my favourite. I actually have no idea how I am going to narrow it down!! But here are a few of my favourites so far…

MAYBE?!?! And this one is a maybe – I’m not sure if I will have the time to get to it… but maybe paint the walls with Simply White by Benjamin Moore. I’m still not 100% certain – but we have used this colour a few times recently, and I love how fresh and crisp this white shade is.

What do you think?!? Would you do it??

Okay, wish me luck!

Maybe I will get there.

Maybe I won’t.

But either way, I will be a whole lot closer to the final goal, right?!?!
